Old vs new wood floor transition

We moved into a place last year with 15 year old beige carpet. We came from a house with wood and tile. This carpet is a constant battle with spills and cat barf and just plain old worn, grungy carpet. I'm making do by covering up as much as possible with area rugs from my last house along with Zep carpet spot remover.

I would like to replace the carpet with wood but I really don't want to go through that horrible dusty mess of site finished wood floors which is what I think I'd have to do to match the current wood floor we have in the entry and kitchen which adjoins the living areas.

I keep wondering if there's something I could do with pre finished wood that doesn't look like I tried to match and failed. I dont want to replace the existing wood floor because there's quite a bit of it and it's in good condition.

Any ideas?
