Joepyeweed, omg you just reminded me of a disaster I had one day. I was on a cleaning frenzy. I even polished the glass panes in the French Doors that lead into the computer room, just off the fireplace area. I finished vacuuming the carpets, cleaned the wood (laminate) flooring and was now onto the fireplace ashes. Got out my little shop vac, plugged the hose into the suction hole, or so I thought, and turned it on. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the hose plugged into the BLOW AIR OUT part. Holy Crap! Ashes went everywhere. And I mean everywhere. All over the glass panes, the flooring, the carpet, the furniture I had just dusted. Nothing I could do except cry. So that's what I did. Then I cleaned again. I like that tray idea but with my luck, I'd trip over the cat and drop it or a big wind would come and blow it all over me.

macv - Thanks, so much for the reply. Well, with the 42" x 30" opening, our ratio is 1.4. If we had gone with the 36" opening, we would have hit 1.2 on the head. I know I should have paid more attention to previous discussions on fireplace proportion. darn. All of the imitative stone chimney enclosure is above the roof surface on the rear of the house. I think only one neighbor will have any kind of view of it during the winter when the leaves are down. Due to the slope of the lot from the road to the house, only the very top is visible from the road which is why we want this to have a nice treatment like the one you showed in the picture. I just talked to DH and he & the fireplace guy have come to a mutually agreeable to solution to trade some aesthetics for avoiding potential water issues. He said that he would write that up for me so I can post it. The corners won't be visible at ground level. However, we are using the same real stone thin veneer which will be at "foundation" level below the Nichiha shakes. DH says that there are corners for it. I know you were upset when you had to have your stamp removed from that project, so I'm sorry if I stirred up unpleasant memories. However, thank you so much for the insight. It really helps. Jo Ann

Out of the 512MB of memory I only had a total of 91.6 available memory left Do you mean you have 91G left on your hard drive? RAM and Hard drive space are different. You do need some hard drive space free to burn disks. Go to My Computer and right click on your hard drive, then select properties. It will show you how much hard drive space you have left. Do you perform regular computer maintenance, such as disk cleanup and defragmenting? If you haven't done that for a while, I would recommend it. I don't believe there is any difference between a blank cd that is labeled audio or data. Some brands are better quality, but if you are using the same ones as before - that shouldn't be an issue. I googled your error "There was an error and now the cd may not be usable" , and it comes up with several hits, but no real solution. It sounds as though it may be a Windows issue, and not so much a burner hardware issue. You said you tried the camera software also? What type of software was that? I have not had the greatest luck with any software that was bundled with my cameras. I use Roxio to burn my disks with and have had great luck. I see that the drive you are looking at comes with Nero - that is good also. I would use that type of burning software instead of the Windows wizard. The burner you are looking at is also a DVD burner - you will LOVE that. They hold so much more data. The Litescribe disks do cost more - and it takes up to 30 minutes to burn the image onto the disk. You must use a Litescribe disk to burn an image on. They look pretty cool though :)

Now hold on guys. Yes, caution is absolutely required here. However, I have a builder grade fireplace that looks very similar to the OP's unit. Mine is designed for either wood or gas. My unit has the same cheesy thin metal like stuff. If you look at the other pics on flicker, you will see that the unit has a full above roof chase and what appears to be a spark cap. I believe my unit has one of those huge 14" flues which is common for these units. This one doesn't seem to be that large, which makes me wonder if it is indeed a wood burner. The top of the front of the unit also has something that looks like sheet metal extending down into the firebox that is different from mine and that makes me think of gas. Remember, these are open fireplaces and don't really generate dramatic heat. My cheesy back fake bricks never got damaged in any way. So, two points: the 'fireplace' may indeed be designed for wood and you will need to check further; AND you aren't going to heat much with this thing either.
