Can't burn my pics but can burn music?

Am trying to copy all my photos that I've shot.... 2 years worth onto cd's. I have burnt pics before with no issues. Now all of the sudden I can't. I get some message saying... "There was an error and now the cd may not be usable".

I thought maybe it was a hardware issue but I can still burn music. I ran the troubleshooter for the device and it says it's working properly. I read the 'tips for burning cd's' and it says to close all windows, clear the recycle bin, delete temp folders, slow the write speed and a few other suggestions.

My PC is older, like 6 years and it had been running slower as of late, so I took it apart & cleaned it and bought more memory... another gig. Out of the 512MB of memory I only had a total of 91.6 available memory left. I put in the memory, PC is smoking and loading pages like new but still can't burn pics!!

I've had ruined more new cd's and can't figure out what's going on. I'm using Windows to burn pics and even the Camera software won't burn pics. Can't determine if it's a hardware or software issue.

My system is an Emachine T2892, AMD Athlon XP 2800+,

2.09 GHz, 120GB hard drive, 1.4 GB Ram. I have had no problems with this PC until now. If it wouldn't burn music then I would think it was a hardware problem.

I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

I would hazard a guess a say that your optical drive (burner) is about to go if not gone already. Burners are cheap, you can pick up a replacement for $30 or so

Is there any possibility that you inadvertently picked up audio CDs rather than data CDs?

Nope, not gonna stop the yellow, but keep soaking today and tomorrow. Exactly the damage can only be determined by how much nitrogen there was by percentage and the form(s) of nitrogen present. If there was a slow release element, the damage will not be continuous at this point. If none was slow release, the damage was immediate because the nitrogen was immediately supplied to the plants. The only thing you can do is water a lot to try to leach the fertilizer past the root zone. Still not effective from a damage-reversing point of view but would have prevented damage somewhat had you caught it and began watering earlier. Normally, it isn't anything to worry about in the long run. In the short run, the grass will look really crappy for a while but will recover. How long that takes usually depends on the type of grass you have. If it's bluegrass, expect that to be about a month give or take. In the meanwhile, don't blow it off as dead. It may not be. Keep mowing on a regular basis, never mowing off more than one third its height. And after tomorrow, irrigate as usual supplying no more than one inch of water per week taking rainfall into consideration. If it isn't bluegrass, let's hope it's not dead, but most don't die from this and usually do recover.

Just wondering.. do you guys water the day after a good soaking rain? How about the day after a little drizzle? OR do you still go out and stick your finger down to check the moisture level? We planted about 55 new conifers this year (for windbreak, etc.) and can't possibly go out and check each rootball's moisture. So I was wondering if there is just a general rule of thumb. Dave says he waters daily, but does that include days when the ground has already received some rain? This always confuses me. Our soil is mainly clay & shale, so even when I do stick my finger down in, it is hard to tell whether it's actually moist, or just the typical cool dampness of the clay itself (hope that makes sense..?). So I've just been giving them a good soaking 1-2 times a week. I have an Irish Juniper that just turned into toast this week. It was planted last fall and watered very well. Not sure if it was actually winter burn showing up now or just the result of this heat wave. Anyway, we are going away for 5 days, and don't really have anyone to come water all our trees... so I am worrying over what to do about all the new conifers (most of them being 9-11 ft. douglas firs, various 4-9 ft. arbs, some small blue spruces, and mugo pines). We are having the same terrible heat wave here in PA right now with very little precip... although it did storm and rain buckets last night. More info: TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail.

Now hold on guys. Yes, caution is absolutely required here. However, I have a builder grade fireplace that looks very similar to the OP's unit. Mine is designed for either wood or gas. My unit has the same cheesy thin metal like stuff. If you look at the other pics on flicker, you will see that the unit has a full above roof chase and what appears to be a spark cap. I believe my unit has one of those huge 14" flues which is common for these units. This one doesn't seem to be that large, which makes me wonder if it is indeed a wood burner. The top of the front of the unit also has something that looks like sheet metal extending down into the firebox that is different from mine and that makes me think of gas. Remember, these are open fireplaces and don't really generate dramatic heat. My cheesy back fake bricks never got damaged in any way. So, two points: the 'fireplace' may indeed be designed for wood and you will need to check further; AND you aren't going to heat much with this thing either.

I wish, for once I could say I was having a 'blonde moment'. These are the same stash of cd's I burnt images last time a few months back.
Whats really odd is, I moved all my pics into folders, ie: saddle club, family 2008, etc. I had to divy up the photos into 3 separate folders as the files were large and many. I burnt 1 disc ea of the 3, of the saddle club photos but couldn't burn any additonal ones for the saddle club. Now it just won't burn images period! Only music.
I'm thinking like genes, must be the drive getting ready to die on me. Was looking at the Pioneer 20x internal double layer with the litescribe. Any thoughts on the litescribe?

Do you mean you have 91G left on your hard drive? RAM and Hard drive space are different. You do need some hard drive space free to burn disks. Go to My Computer and right click on your hard drive, then select properties. It will show you how much hard drive space you have left.

Do you perform regular computer maintenance, such as disk cleanup and defragmenting? If you haven't done that for a while, I would recommend it.

I don't believe there is any difference between a blank cd that is labeled audio or data. Some brands are better quality, but if you are using the same ones as before - that shouldn't be an issue.

I googled your error "There was an error and now the cd may not be usable" , and it comes up with several hits, but no real solution. It sounds as though it may be a Windows issue, and not so much a burner hardware issue. You said you tried the camera software also? What type of software was that? I have not had the greatest luck with any software that was bundled with my cameras.

I use Roxio to burn my disks with and have had great luck.

I see that the drive you are looking at comes with Nero - that is good also. I would use that type of burning software instead of the Windows wizard.

The burner you are looking at is also a DVD burner - you will LOVE that. They hold so much more data.

The Litescribe disks do cost more - and it takes up to 30 minutes to burn the image onto the disk. You must use a Litescribe disk to burn an image on. They look pretty cool though :)
