Oh how I wish I could make lemonade for her, but it gives her heartburn, so she hasn't been able to drink it and enjoy it for a good while. We're just taking things day by day for now. I certainly wish I was surrounded by friends right now. I could use the distraction.

I'm so sorry to read your Gram has been ill Brad. Please take good care of yourself, she will probably rest easiest knowing you are doing that. When you do get her home, make sure she's drinking - water. Getting dehydrated can make a heart work harder. I'm sending positive thoughts and energy her way...

Moonwolf, I'm sorry to read this. You mean the world to your Gram, and she wouldn't want to see you upset. Take care of her, give her liquids and anything else she might need to be comfortable. Does she like books? Just having you there when you can is important.

She doesn't really read, plus her eyesight is horrible (she is blind in one eye). I don't drive, and she's a 40 minute drive from here. They are taking good care of her where she is, but if she continues to fight them and be stubborn, she's just going to be in there longer.

Brad, I'm sorry to hear about your Gram, and will keep her, and your family in my prayers. And condolences on the passing of your friend's stepfather. You are a good friend to many, and I am sure your friend appreciated you being there with them.

Dad and I went to visit her a few hours ago and just got home about half an hour ago. They took her to dinner, but fought into getting into the wheelchair with the two nurses because she didn't want to go. I was so embarrassed by it. Dad and I went to sit in the waiting room until she was done. We went back and she was fine. She seems like more of herself, but if she doesn't stop that stubborn streak, she will be there longer. *sigh*

Mum made those BBQ Beef Cups for supper. I am not very hungry tonight as I just ate only one. I also had quite a bit of salad leftover from yesterday's lunch (our one grocery store has an excellent salad bar). Maybe I'll eat a piece of peanut butter pie (from a restaurant that is up near the town where my gram is at currently). A little tired today from this very cold and windy weather.

Poor Gram is confused. I hope when they get her medications figured out that she will be better and more relaxed.

Brad, don't be embarrassed by Gram's actions right now. Some of it is from being confused, some is from the anesthetic, some from being dehydrated. Some may just be her being stubborn, but if its being stubborn it's because she is trying to control her out of control life. She may not be able to control the stubborn actions. It is very hard to watch our elders in these situations. Sending you hugs, and keeping you all in my prayers.

Oh, Brad, I'm so sorry for you and your family. I will keep you, Gram and your family in my prayers. I've had the same stubbornness in a couple of members of my family and in some instances it was their frustration of being in that situation. Everyone needs to practice extreme patience when that happens, even if you don't want to. Just let Gram know how much you love her and need her. Its wonderful that you were able to be there for your friend and their family in their time of need. It really does give them comfort in their sorrow.

Linda, the salad was my lunch yesterday and lunch today, so technically, I did skip it for supper lol. The pie wasn't too bad. Nothing like we make at home. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Tami, it was from her being stubborn. She simply did not want to get out of bed to go eat, but it is part of her therapy. She's not going to get better by lying in bed all day. I mean, she can't go run a marathon or anything, but she can do some things. Other than that, she was pretty much herself. I know I won't go back to visit her if she keeps acting that way. Dad said the same thing, too. For me, it's hard to watch her like that, like you said. Dad is going to see her again, tomorrow, so we will find out if we will keep visiting her or not ( I'm a little miffed by her outburst today, and my uncle and my dad feel the same way).

Madonna, dad and I did give her a hug before we left, so she knows we love her and she still loves us. I just wish this would all blow over as fast as it came. I hate that life likes to intervene in personal happiness or pile on the bad times rather heavily. *sigh* Thank you all again for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes.

Brad, please don't be miffed at her, she may be doing the best she can. When someone's health is out of their control, and they are in a facility where they would rather not be, the change - even little changes in routine - can be hard. Can I guess that she has very certain ways she does things at home? All is very different for her there, just be patient, and loving.

I don't pretend to know her current condition either so forgive me if I overstep...but when both my FIL and my brother's FIL were having heart issues, the lower oxygen levels by a heart not functioning up to par caused some temper, and some confusion too. Less oxygen in the blood almost looked a little like dementia, thoughts weren't clear. Better hydrated, and with some supplemental oxygen provided, thoughts/actions cleared again. Just be kind to her, and firm when you need to be, but still kind. This is a hard time for all of you having to deal with her being ill, hope tomorrow goes better. ;0)

She is doing better in that sense since she still has her appetite, taking her medicine, drinking lots of water. Just I have never seen her pitch a fit like she did today in all 26 years that I have known her (which is my whole life). It sounds like what happened to your FILs also happened to gram. We had a lovely visit after she ate and such, but we were stern in our approach to her attitude that she needs to cooperate when they tell her to so that she can get better and out of there.
