Hardy Roses for NE Ohio
Comments (11)If you get a chance to visit the Roses of Legend and Romance garden in Wooster (an Ohio state facility), you will see many fabulous roses that are definitely hardy. Some are Canadian Explorer roses, and many others are old roses. Well worth a trip. They offered quite a few roses for sale last year at their first ever open garden event in early June, and I'm hopeful they'll do it again next year. I'm from California, but was in Ohio visiting family, so went to the event and drooled over the roses but knew I couldn't legally take them home. You would have no such restrictions! Comments (6)It depends on where you are. We have had various forms of precipitation for the last 3 days. The cats are going stir-crazy looking for a door that doesn't have nasty wet stuff on the other side. So there already is plenty of moisture. In fact, mulch would be too wet. We'll dry out sometime in April, probably....See MoreWith winter protection can handle being out in the open NE Ohio zone 5
Comments (22)Natchez Glen...I've had the Ryusen for a number of years...until we had the nasty arctic air move in for long periods. Never an issue with walnut seedlings. Glad to hear it's not the actual juglone that is an issue. Never in 24 years of living here...have we had any seedlings appear from our tree. Guess we have hungry critters out in our rural area to leave them root. Trust me...I enjoy working in the yard...and my bonsai hobby. But, I believe it pays to know what one is getting into. Since it's a large investment for trees especially. But, also since I have years back lost much landscape material not understanding juglone was an issue or that it even existed. The nursery staff is what wigged me out saying that it would be difficult with my wanting to plant in the open. Thus...my asking questions here. I wanted to stack the deck in my favor with my next selection....See MoreHow should I winter my newly rooted rose cuting
Comments (0)I had good luck with one rose cutting and my shrub is doing quite nicely. It is about 8 or 9 inches tall with many leaves and roots in a pot. I don't want to lose it over winter so wonder how would be the best way for it to survive. My garage does get down to zero on really cold, cold days. Will it survive best there with a little moisture added occasionally or would it be best to keep it in my house where it can continue growing all winter, or maybe you have a suggestion that is better. Any information you can give me will be helpful. I am in Zone 3....See MoreMoses, Pittsburgh, W. PA., zone 5/6, USA
