Drab exterior - need color help
Comments (89)roobear - can you tell me the names of the colors in that wintery picture? Looks like the trim, garage doors and shutters are all different? Squirrel - My DH is sitting here and I showed him your last picture. He said "Will you tell her to just stop!" (in a good-natured tone - LOL!) He sees you spending our money :-) I say keep going!! It is looking great, and fun to see the mature landscape around the house. We had our sidewalk and front entry porch stamped and stained in our last house. It was absolutely beautiful but was quite expensive. That was about 10 years ago, so maybe with technology advancements and everything else the cost has come down. May be worth checking out! Just saw your post on the Japanese maple. Wondering if my ash tree would cause the maple some issues. The house faces west, so the ash provides a lot of great shade on the house during the summer months. I think you are exactly right about digging down deep and replacing more of the clay soil out with good stuff. I didn't do a good job of that last time. Comments (13)Hey Docbotanus! This is a super old post, I hope you figured your situation out! I only have a yellow/pink brick, so it is not AS urgent to dye as an orange ;) Why not just order the dye from NawKaw and do it yourself, are you still having reservations? I too think the do-it-yourself youtube videos make it sound SUPER reasonable to do...just take your time (rushing or half-assing will lead to drips and mistakes), and go in varying patterns as suggested in the video. You can do one round around the house in patterns with one color mix, then make a bit darker or lighter and do a second round, then third, to vary the color variety. Pete Sloane's advice seems spot on, dye is permanent, I would not think otherwise, so definitely a process to consider (VS REPLACEMENT!!! Oye, that is worse, and WAY more expensive). The product will cost you, what, $400? and the time is just experience and fulfilling completing a project, which is very rewarding. I say go for it, I am eager to embark on the same dream! My hubs thinks I am nuts, too, spouses can be so encouraging, lol....See MoreI need help with exterior paint colors please!
Comments (22)Love your house! Your roof, brick, and flagstone are all warm colors, and the roof and the flagstone have some intensity of color. They need a color with some weight to it, just enough to stand up to them LOL, not enough to challenge them. Look at some samples in a deeper sage color or a silvery/bronzy/greeny color. If it will go with your flagstone, it will go with the house. Have fun!...See MoreHow to enhance curb appeal on old peach/tan brick main street home
Comments (11)So who chooses the "featured answer" in this forum? It doesnt seem to have anything to do with no. of likes.. Theres no rhyme or reason to it. If brick is to be painted then it needs to be a breathable stain or mineral paint which forms a chemical bond with the masonry, and not a latex plastic film that sits on top of the brick and traps moisture which then creates spalling and damage you may see as soon as 10 yrs from now. Romabio (mentioned above) is a mineral paint and is good for brick and masonry as was said. Also check out Limeworks.us or Beeck - they have great customer service and the price really is comparable to a better quality conventional paint. You may have to either diy or look for a painter who knows about this paint or is willing to expand their skill set. These products have been used in Europe for hundreds of years but for some reason not as much used in the US as they could or should be. They are catching on though. Less effort would be simply choosing another accent color besides white! Thats whats giving it that peach pie with ice cream look! A dark green-black would look appealing, providing a sharp contrast and making the walls read more as a nice warm more neutral tan. It really is a sweet house and will look great once you get all the colors working well together....See Moretheclose
