Pond Project Part 2-The Waterfall
Comments (10)liz - The pond itself is shaped like a kidney bean and the pond liner is square. So when I laid out the liner I adjusted the extra liner to come out on the corner of the pond where I intended to put the waterfall. The waterfall itself is backed by the extra liner with the end of it tucked into the top of the cement blocks. I was lucky in finding a rock with a lip to cover the ends of the hoses that feed the water fall. It did take me a couple of weeks to adjust the liner to stop leaks but now it is virtually leak free. I am really glad I didn't cement the rocks together because since this post I have had to take it apart 2 times to correct problems. Hopefully, I won't have to a third time! nova...See MoreMy 5-1-1 (Pine Bark Project part 2)
Comments (22)""Since I only had enough bark for basically 10 plants total, I am going to try another mix using MG Organic Coice with some MGMC."" Make sure you add additional perlite as the MG organic choice contains none. Why would you choose the MGMC soil many say its not good for pepper use? Holds too much moisture. The Organic choice is very gritty and compacts hard if no perlite is introduced, if it was me I would also throw in some of that extra, smaller bark into that mix. Comments (47)The GOOD: First off, everything is going together beautifully. The finish nailing is going smooth as it comes. I haven't even made a big mess with all the glue. I had the brilliant idea to use the chamfer bit on my never used router to make give the front trim a slimming effect. I did so by running it over both sides of the trim so the angles run away from the center like so: \ | / Looks beautiful and makes it look much smaller height wise while still hiding the cleats. Currently, all the shelves are nailed and glued, all the front trim is nailed and glued and I have been finishing up filling nail holes. I still need to do the molding. The BAD: Alright let me start by saying I am an idiot. So as the story goes...I got ready to finish the trim out and after looking at a final mocked up shelf, I decided, I am going to be different. I liked the look of contrasting light pine against the oak. So instead of using my stain to color match the pine, I just varathaned it. I realize you guys will probably contact a moderator to revoke my gardenweb login for accepting so much good advice and then doing something so stupid. It does look pretty good on the single shelf bays, but where there are 4+, not so good. On those, all you see is trim. Is there any way to darken while in place, after I already varathaned? -I read about polyshade, but that sounds like a dangerous product if you aren't a pro. -Sanding them will be hard in place especially without messing up how I routed it. -Anything else?...See MoreCabin project 2, the screened porch
Comments (15)This is the kind of thing I think would be very hard to plan for without spending some time living there first. But you are probably far better at doing that than I am. I have analysis paralysis and part of that is trying the place on for size before I make any major decisions. When we moved to our new lakehome we just moved our stuff in and tried it for a while and then added and changed as we discovered how we and our guests used the space. Same with our new townhome. I had all kinds of grand plans ahead of time that I'm glad I didn't commit to until after I'd lived there for a while. I changed my mind on a lot of things. It's fun to plan though!!...See MoreJulie Reekie
