These Tools Are The Strongest I Have Used
Comments (11)I think Craftsman is still a great deal for the homeowner type. The Craftsman liftime warranty is not the only one available. But I have never had a hassle trying to exchange something at Sears (2 times). I would rather not go through the hassle of any of the other manufacturers, especially an HF special. Kobalt tools through HD might be worth a try. Ridgid through HD also seems to be a good deal. Snap-on is of course cadillac but too expensive and not enough need for me to buy them....See Morebest electric tool for cutting back a lot of sedges
Comments (1)I bought one of these this year, to use with large tough-stemmed grasses: It's a Black & Decker 20" hedge trimmer. $50 at Home Depot. It does a great job on thick-stemmed grasses like Miscanthus and Ravenna Grass. It's the first power tool I've used for grasses, and I wonder why I waited so long. For less tough grasses, and all my Carex plants, I use Corona hand shears. Fine-bladed clumpers like C. divulsa are a 2-hand job for me. One hand to hold up a handful of the blades, and the other to shear it off. I shape the clump into a ball, so it grows right back into a uniform clump....See MoreAny one knows a tool maker here?
Comments (4)Don't know about a tool maker but I took apart one of my Gillette Goodnews razors with three blades and used medical tweezers to fold the blades together and stuck them into the handle of an X-Acto handle forming a loop razor blade. The thinnest of the blades snapped in half but the thicker blades folded nicely. Still don't know exactly how you are using it but I use it to remove the interior woody material down to the cambium after removing the bud with a budding knife. Is this right, works better than my finger nail....See MoreWhich rulers do you have? Which do you use?
Comments (18)Over the last couple of yrs. I've had to buy rulers for classes: the 8 x 24, then 12.5 square, then 3.5 square then 4.5 square (I'm not doing angles yet). Despite all that, I revert back to the same rulers I used as a teenager (I'm 51): 2 x 18, clear lucite, marked in 1/8" (comes marked or red or turquoise). My latest pair of the last few yrs. once I started rotary cutting, I got one w/ a metal edge. I'm just sooooo used to the 1/8 mark & the almost automatic 1/4 that's so easily marked w/ these. Just last night I opened my first pack of sandpaper dots (had for couple of yrs.) after a small slip cutting around the 4.5" square. Turns out they're great! They're 3/8" in diameter w/ some adhesive backing, makes a BIG difference. From the LQS, comes 36 in a pack, called Fabric Grips (for $2.40). Try 'em! But now that you all have reminded me I own a 6 X 24, that's what I've needed for the last 3 wks doing homework for a color class, working all in 4.5" squares. Have to make 4 separate quilts, each 6 x 8 repeats finished at 4" square. I;ve cut individually around the square, yikes! Yes, NOW I remember the larger rule. Can you hear me smacking myself in head (you know, like the V-8 commercial)?...See Morebobismyuncle
