Detergent suggestions/liquid or powder?
Comments (14)I've been using FL machines for over 10 years and I have never had a mold issue. My previous machine didn't even have a heater so no sanitize and still no mold. I have always left my door open after washing. With my new Miele I even remove the detergent drawer and rinse out the fabric softener compartment. I did notice on my Frigidaire that mold was forming in the detergent drawer as I never thought to leave it open. Don't want to make that mistake with my Miele. I have used mostly liquid detergent and fabric softener. A large part of those 10 years it was Tide and Downy. A few years ago I "greened" up and use only "more natural" fabric softener (only one is awesome to me - Shaklee Fresh Laundry). I have an "arsenal" of detergents; most of them greener choices but a few not so. I do own Persil in various flavors but can only really tolerate the Sensitive version (smell wise). I also have Tide HE Free Coldwater for when I really need it. Mostly I use Vaska, Clorox Greenworks and lately Seventh Generation liquid and powder. I have several others I use sometimes. I'm a bit of a product addict - Larsi and I ;) I highly recommend you use HE detergent. See attached link. If you have mud stains or ground-in soil or dirt, then powder detergent will work best. If, on the other hand, you're working with more oily dirt, like food stains, you should use a liquid detergent. Even Miele told me this. I think it's wise to own both a powder and a liquid. I do and it's working for me ;) Good luck! Let us know how it's working for you. Comments (16)I use both but prefer liquids. Much easier diluted although the powders of late seem to dissolve much better than 20 years ago. A liquid spill is far easier to clean up than a powder spill and powders are just messier. But it's not a real big deal either way. I've learned to be more careful. I used mostly powder then switched to liquid until about 2 years ago and went to Great Value enzyme powder, and tried Sun, a non-enzyme powder then tried Tide dye & perfume free and Gain liquid, oh and also Tide Regular 2x and have some Arm & Hammer left too. So I'm using a variety of products. Let's see, offhand I know of 6 different ones down there! I gave away the Spring liquid because I itched from it. And it looks like I might get to try out another different one. I never thought I'd enjoy doing laundry! LOL...See MoreGain Original Fabric Softener
Comments (7)and YES MamaP, I've notice Downy unscented kills, or as you say it nicer neutralizes other scents. See my first reply to Sandy, LOL ;) I even say I add extra Tide 'he' powder when I use unscented Downy, because I try and get as much Tide Original classic scent as possible. I've found mixing Downy unscented with a hair of Downy AF when using my beloved Tide powder works best!...See MoreGain Flings (pods) detergent
Comments (10)I have Gain Flings in Moonlight or some such scent, they are blackish purple on one side and creamy white on the other side..I've tried them several times, first the scent is very berry gummie bear..than when the first liad jeans were done they had white slimmy stuff on them..so next load I wstched and there was white slime floating around on top of the water. .I'm assuming its the white part of the pod..this wss maybe a year ago I tried them. I guess they didn't disolve..and yes peeps hold your tongue my chicks ..you know mama uses hot water LOL....See Morealways1stepbehind
