Do I go tankless water heater or wait for 75-gal gas heater?
Comments (22)The reason we have 2 tankless heaters is so both of them are close to the point of use, which equals less wait time. I also drew our house plans to make sure my hot water use areas were "clustered" because of this. Due to the piping in our double wide, we have to wait up to 5 minutes for hot water from a tank heater. Ridiculous. I have played around with my parents' stuff and have never waited more than 10 or 12 seconds for hot water because their heaters are also near the point of use. Their and our tankless heaters are Rinnai, btw. The only instant hot water I have ever experienced was in a really nice hotel... ;-) I don't know how big our current tank is, but we often run out of hot water for our family of 4. I'm looking forward to never dealing with that again!! Vonda PS Hello to a fellow Arkansan. Comments (7)We don't have much info to go on. We don't know what your needs are, what your wants are or what your budget is. All we really know is that you want gas in the event that the electricity is out. A tankless requires a small amount of electricity to operate - it would not operate if the power was out. A generator would solve that problem and provide power for other things as well. I don't completely agree with Dan, you can size a tankless to run more than one thing at a time. I sized mine so that in the coldest part of the year I could run the shower and the bathroom faucet - in the summer I can run about twice that amount. It works fine in my house, but if I had a larger family I'd go with a larger unit. There are also 50 gal Hybrid units - They store the water but have high BTU input and very high efficiency. They can produce a certain amount of continuous hot water as well. These meet the 30% tax credit requirements and vent with PVC pipe - making them cheap to install where long vent runs are needed. I have included an example - I'm not endorsing a particular brand. Note that these would not run without a small amount of electrical power. Comments (3)My "supply line" starts at the outlet of my well tank. It's 1/2" along with everything in te house. My plan is to... - Replace 1/2" pipe with 3/4" from the well tank to the water heater. - Replace 1/2" pipe with 3/4" from both the hot and cold main lines leaving the water tank. - Keep the 1/2" branch lines that feed the sinks, bathtub, ect. using 3/4" to 1/2" transition tees along the way. - Add 3/4" gate valves and flex pipe to both sides of the water heater so I can replace it easier next time. - Add 1/2" valves with bleeders to each branch so a leak in one won't force me to shut down the whole system. Sound reasonable? Thanks! Marco...See Moreelectric water heater keeps tripping circuit box
Comments (1)Gray area. Since it didn't do this from the day it was installed, it is unlikely that it is actually wired wrong. Therefore, a component has failed (I'm guessing top heating element as shorted internally). It's two screws, two wires, and a big nut. Either is qualified to find the problem and replace it, but the plumber is more likely to already have a replacement in stock, so I personally would aim this at the plumber. Re-reading your original post, it's 7 months old, there's probably a warranty, so call back whoever installed it (most likely a plumber)....See MoreMallory Paine
