Got my HFGH (6x8)! Now I have questions!
Comments (31)I ALWAYS play nice (well, at least MOST of the time!!!) Okay, pictures have been taken - but not DL'd to computer yet (I'm surfing @ poolside via WiFi... Oh the SACRIFICES I have to make! ;-) I think I've been inspired to post an addendum to my "Garden Page" (you can get there from my webpage, linked below). I haven't done it yet, but I'll try to post my GH erection efforts "Step-By-Step." They won't be as good as conifers'/Dax's pictorial, but I'll do my best (Gotta "Give Back to the Community," right?!!) I think the wood-cutting is still a "hair" off, but the 'errors' will be put on the back-side (next to a fence, where no one will ever walk / have an opportunity to bend the aluminum base). Or maybe I'll add some skinny/lath/shim kinda material for the Too hot to dig up veggies right now, so I'll postpone that 'til early evening (or early tomorrow morning). I'll probably move my "boring observations" to the webpage (When I start it!). I'll just make note, on here, when I post updates - so I won't bore everyone with my long-winded commentary!!! Of course, I'm *sure* I'll have more questions as I go through this - and I *will* post those questions here! And I just thought of another Q: Should I paint the RW base before I assemble it? If so, white (for reflective qualities)? Or black (for heat-sinking)??? Or should I just hold off on that altogether (bearing in mind that it'll be easier to paint BEFORE I assemble it)??? Any thoughts...??? Thanks - AGAIN - for all the support, insight and advice! And thanks - in advance - for enduring my upcoming questions!!! You guys ROCK!!! -Nancy Here is a link that might be useful: IMQTPI's Garden Page (I'll update it soon!!!)...See MoreSally Moragne
Comments (226)Hi Rob!! Awesome bench you have there and I love the set up you have made for your beauties!! Great job, my friend!!!! Those pictures of your Adeniums, clarity, color and overall beauty is simply stunning! Just beautiful.... I have been really busy lately with my job as well as taking care of my aging mother. She was sick in November and is still not doing well. She needs a lot of attention and help now, so when I'm home from my job, I'm usually helping her, my daughter and grandson etc. I am Hoping that I'll see some routine back in my life that will include my quiet time that allows me to enjoy my trees and visit the forums as well. But she is my priority right now and I'm trying to balance her and my family. it will all be fine, so I just take it day by day. Thank you for thinking of me... it means a lot and it touches my heart !! You are always a shining light and I'm thankful!! Hugs!!! Laura...See MoreYikes!!!!! I just ordered a greenhouse!
Comments (408)Vladimir, coming from a family raised with environmentalists, I can sympathize with you. It stinks. My mother keeps telling me that to see a farm or tree in ten years we will have to hit the Zoo here in Mass...There is too much development going on at the cost of the environment so that cities and towns can just collect more taxes and build more and more. It's a vicious cycle taking out all of the surrounding forest around me leaving us with drought and a lack of pop of storms that once existed every summer less the 20 years back. We have Turkeys, Dear, Bears and much wild life running around peoples backyards, it's no wonder all to make room for those dam mini malls that we already have too much of or huge Condos'.. They just took down over 50 acres of forested hill tops to build another hotel, condos. and supermarkets which we already have just 2 miles away from that! ..I am so sorry to hear this Vladimir and I hope it all works out in some way. I love people but I just don't like noisy ones and being crowded...Good luck and please keep us informed....See MoreHow are you guys up north with greenhouses holding up?
Comments (51)Thanks guys! Hibiscus and Jenny, I had just rearranged the benches and trees to make the space look more open. It was a relief just to get the gh enclosed in time before the big chill and we were so tired that we just put the benches in for the citrus, hung lights above them and that was enough at the time. Christmas is over and now that I have more of a feel for the space, room, light and heat wise, I can shift things around.. I did not want to put all of the citrus trees down in the gh at once until I knew the temperature was stable and I had enough hookups for lights , so I still have a few trees upstairs in my sunroom. The trees will get bigger and need repotting into larger pots eventually and I still have close to 20 small citrus tree liners of various varieties and also seedlings. As they grow they will take up more space so I need to be careful of all the enabling that goes on around here.. lol.. I really only want 2 or three more trees and hopefully I can remain strong and resist the urge to aquire more and more.. lol.. Brian, only 12 more weeks of winter? Lol.. I am looking forward to ordering and starting my garden seeds. I have been getting lots of garden catalogs in the mail and have not had the time to look at them. I planted a lot of daffodil bulbs in the fall and have 2 new grandbabies arriving in 2018. Have a lot to look forward too. :)...See MoreMike C
