color choices for LR/DR/K in new house - DULL?
Comments (32)Thanks, blf. That is exactly what I love about this site. Honest criticism! It doesn't tie in with anything. The closest tie-ins might be the leather recliner and the fact that we used to live in Texas! Houzz shows tons of cowhide rugs these days, but maybe the rooms are more contemporary than mine. Maybe the cowhide rug in my room is just trying to hard to be different! Here is a link that might be useful: [Houzz cowhide rugs[(https://www.houzz.com/products/cowhide-rugs-prbr1-br~t_515~a_623-12946)...See MoreLR/DR color decsion
Comments (4)Personally I love the look of a painted ceiling if, & only if, there is molding/trim to separate the ceiling & wall. I tried Blue Sage in my DR that has dark wood trim & while I think that it is a beautiful color I decided that it just didn't work well w/ my dark trim. I thought that the rm. felt cold. On the flip side, I had a kids b-day party the following wk. & lots of the men mentioned that they loved the DR. Yes, a few used the word LOVE. At the time these pic's were taken there was a massive tree in my back yard so the DR didn't get much light. If I had white trim I'd use the color again in a heartbeat. I hope this helps....See MoreCan anyone help my long and ugly LR/DR
Comments (31)Thank you Bev for giving me the visualization I've been lacking! It really helps! I agree that the colors In the painting have been giving me difficulty. I may try to move it into the DR or another room, but it is quite large, so I'm not sure. In any case, you have helped me feel bolder about getting started on this project. Thank you!! Chucksmom: I I00% agree that if you love something, it doesn't matter if it's "out". In my case, I do think I'm tired of the colors and need a change. Since the whole house needs painting, it seems like a good time to implement these changes. The chandelier was something I really loved for a long time, but I need a aimpler look. I have a friend who wants it and it will be perfect in her DR. Kippy: I've always thought it was strange that the furniture faces the stairs. Maybe it's partly why the room feels weird to me. That and the high ceilings make it feel cold. We actually never use that room other than when there are large gatherings that spill into that part of the house. We all congregate in the FR. Kitchen and backyard, though the cats like to curl up on the sofa!...See MoreYour comments wanted! Color for LR/DR/Entry/Hallway
Comments (4)Nothing wrong with plain white for your bungalow. It's all the random items inside that are having the biggest effect on this home. Here's a California bungalow in all white. Note the mounting height iron rods and the drapery panels blue color carried through the home color concentrated on rugs and art texture of combine selected addition of live plants minimal small 'stuff' in the house. http://decoratingfiles.com/2014/11/home-tour-rustic-california-bungalow/...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
