Go for it - I'll spend your money!!! Especially if you're a bather - I am - the right tub is a big deal. Love both of them but the second design has my name all over it. So.... define absurdly. I already bought my tub for our build (darn!) but I can dream.

While not MCM, it is gorgeous and perfect. I mean honestly, have you seen the MCM bathrooms? Boooooring.

Thank you guys!!!! I just love the tubs! Your opinions really make me feel better about them as choices. But the price...yikes! ... still, I can think of it as purchasing a piece of art for the bathroom, right?

I think I'll take baths occasionally-maybe 1-2x a month, but I will be staring at the tub every day. I would like something pretty. All the modern freestanding tubs are so boring, I agree bpathome! I cant find any that I like.

If you had to vote .. which one? Top or bottom tub? I know there is one vote for top and one for bottom so far.

As for the price - long-term items are worth spending money on, IMO.

The second one looks very much like my c. 1924 American standard j tub. I'd have to see the first one in contest with the rest of your choices. You have excellent taste, just make sure it works in context.

Ah-ha! So here's what you do: you get the tub you want, and then you get the car you want...only with fewer options, that add up to the difference in the price of the tub with an ordinary tub. Ie: cloth interior versus leather; no heated seats, that kind of thing! The tub is an investment; a car is not.

@1929spanishgw. Thank you but I suspect it's not good taste. I just seem to hone in to the most expensive items in shops. It is some sort of cursed instinct! I totally get what you are saying which is why i am worried...but all the newer contemporary tubs are these oval swooshing things and they all look the same. :(

I have that curse too. Top. I justify high prices by saying "pennies a day" over the course of a lifetime.

Here's a pic I found of another of their other tubs. The grey Is nice. I will have white procelanosa floor tiles, white creased heath tiles in shower, walnut cabinets, white cease arts one.

I love them all, and I think the grey one is mine (mine was custom spray painted silver). But to me they all look too traditional for your space. The little lip and modling type detail look traditional to me.

It's important to decide if you want cast iron or resin, too.

What about a custom color?

I prefer top, but agree with mtn, it seems to traditional for your space. But beautiful.

I really like the egg, but it's a bit overdone now.

Very out iof context- for sure not somewhere I would compromise for something hardly used. Its not art, its a bath tub- use the saved money for real art.

Who is to say it's hardly used? My tub looks over a flower bed and out to our pond... I use it often. Rockybird's will look Over a succulent garden... it sounds amazing!

I agree with mtn - the egg seems overdone, but it might look good in the space. What about a rectangle - how do you think that would look? Do you think that would be uncomfortable?

I think a rectangle could definitely work. But for some reason I can't quite explain, I would want it to be in a niche. So I would want a wall on the left where you have the door ... sort of framing it on both sides with the wall, but leaving empty space all around. Not to dissimilar from th shot above with the marble cladding on the wall.

rectangular can be comfy, but I would try it to be sure .. I hate tubs where you find yourself sorta floating away and having to grab on

they're all beautiful but like others, doesn't look like the rest of your cool house. I was a bit surprised to read that you're not a bather tho and are willing to spend so much on something you'll rarely use. The once or twice a month you might use it, will you be able to see out into your garden in a soaker tub? Or will such a high tub block some of your view out into the garden when you're not in it?

With the wall of glass can others see into the bath area? I know you live in the hills can they look down into the space ? I have lots of glass too but I had the big glass wall removed and replaced with a tile wall . I just got worried about it. Especially reading about the peeping drones. I do like the first tub. I think you have honored the mid century modern aspects totally throughout the house so one little bathtub that is not absolutely mcm won't hurt a thing especially if it makes you happy . Who else do you have to please ? YOU!

Soaking tub

I really like Roarah's Bluestone and the wood tub.

How about something organic? It's available in five stone choices. They have a few other interesting tubs also:

Do you want an airbath or a soaking tub? If soaking, what about a Japanese style onzen/ofuro tub - round or square, but deep? (We have the Ann Sack's Onzen tub, now called something else. Built in seats. With jets. It's not for your bathroom though.)

I think a wood tub would be nice to soften/break up the tile, and blend in with the outdoors. I would look for one with a wood wrapped exterior.

rocky, have you looked at Wetstyle? They are a Canadian manufacturer of tubs and they have some beautiful, simple freestanding tubs. They have cube, egg and other shapes for very modern looking tubs.

It's a bit Art Deco, but if it's easy to get into and out of, and you like soaking and looking at the cactus garden ... make it work.

I tend to agree it looks a bit traditional but if it is comfortable, maybe the sales people can steer you toward a similar tub by the same mfg that is more MCM. The 2nd you posted is beautiful too. Pay attention to the inside configuration and measurements. I hear you on comfort and the idea that it is a piece of art for the bathroom!

I do too, Allison. They had that one on display at Pirch that we tested out. I'm short so I really had to maneuver to get in it as the sides are quite tall. It's probably fine if you don't take baths very often or are over 5 feet 2 inches tall. ;) But it looked very nice on display.

The ID is recommending one that is rectangle , similar to the wetstyle one Pipdog posted. I am okay with this one, but I would love to know the brand of the one that Sochi linked.

raven- there will be a tall block wall behind the succulent garden. It will (hopefully) screen out the telephone lines and backyard, with the mountain visible above it.

I didn't like it as much from the front either, probably because it is so unexpected and different. It's growing on me, at an alarming rate, particularly since I decided not to have a tub!

I would prefer not to have to clean around those legs.
