redo old cast iron or buy new acrylic tub
Comments (11)Have you read the thread from a couple of months ago? I attached it so you can read some opinions. The reason I prefer cast iron is because it is authentic and I like old things, especially in an old or made to look old house. I like the solid slick feel of cast iron. Plus it does hold heat much longer. (Someone on the attached thread compares it to cookware.) Unless you are going to have a drop in acrylic that can be insulated or better yet one with a recirculating pump, then I would definitely choose the one that's going to hold the heat. There's nothing I can't stand more than just getting settled in for a tub soak and the water starts to cool only to discover that because your teenage daughter has just taken a shower and there is no more hot water to top off your bath with! Here is a link that might be useful: preferred bathtub material...See MoreSS Support - Monday 7/7 - Sunday 7/13

Comments (21)If you pull the service manuals for the Octoplus machines they are different. The outside basic shell is the same, but what went inside was different. The professional machines have full stainless inner and outer drums. Stainless vs Aluminum spider. The shocks are much beefier. The drum is horizonal and not inclined. There is no captive rubber boot for the door. The last one is why Miele won't sell the octoplus to residential customers. It is possible to get little fingers caught between the door and frame. The upside is that without a boot there are lot fewer problems with water being retained in a boot and you get a better seal. They are setup for external chemical dispensing. Designed to last 30k instead of 10k hours. Etc. Etc. Miele made too many compromises with the 27" residential units. It backfired on them. Now they only offer their worldwide residential 24" and professional 24" and up sizes. There was never a gas version of the octoplus dryer that I was aware of. It was electric only. The electric versions of the T98xx dryer had fewer problems. Most of which were related to the machine being overloaded. The octoplus is rated to hold a full drum worth of clothes. The residential models were not. It was very easy to put 1.5 to two times the amount of clothes in the residential drum vs what they were rated to hold. For marketing and customer education that is really up to the reseller. Some dealers are really good and others just sell you the appliance and you are on your own. Miele's manuals are fantastic. Much better than almost every other manufacturer. Many people do not read the manual cover to cover so they are unaware of all of the available options and any required ongoing maintenance. We are a family of 13 people now and we have ONE set of W1/T1 laundry. We do ALL of our laundry in them. From towels to dress shirts, wool pants and sweaters, sanitize when needed. Never had one problem with them. I did replace the foam filter on the dryer which is in front of the condenser after 3000 hours as it was starting to wear out. (This was mentioned in the manual) I think looking at the size of the new washer/dryer gives a lot of people pause. It is NOT an issue if you are accustomed to doing laundry every day. With the size of our family it is 4-6 loads per day. We can put 12-14 Costco size bath towels in one load for perspective. You can fill the drum all the way up as long as you don't pack it tight and lean on the door to get it closed everything will come out clean. It's too bad you didn't have better luck with your current appliances. I can see how that would taint your view of Miele....See MoreDo you like your iron?
Comments (47)marie_cate, that is what I should have done for sure is call the Marriott. As per my previous post above, I got the iron from ebay and was so excited to use it. I go to plug it in and the cord will not stay un-retracted (if that's a word). I am trying to start ironing and the cord keeps pulling back into the iron. It seems to be going on and off. I am distraught AGAIN! Why is it so hard to find a decent iron? I took the Black and Decker back to Macy's because it leaked and made white circles on my clean laundry and the teflon was hard to move across clothes. Of course by this time the Rowenta had gone off sale and so I left with nothing. I'm not paying $90 for an iron that was $44.00 the day before. Being back to square one, I went on Amazon and found the Rowenta (made in China) with the retractable cord that had gone off sale at Macy's for $5 less than the sale price. I immediately ordered it but then read bad reviews about it. Rowenta DW2290 Sheesh..I am supposed to receive it on Tuesday. We'll see if frantic housewife finally gets the ironing done. The used retractable Rowenta DE480 I ordered on ebay had terrible reviews even though it was made in Germany. Gads, wish I had found those reviews first. I am thinking many got returned but the ebay guy said he had refurbished it but it wasn't refurbished at all. I will have to pay to ship it back to him if I ever hear from him about it. It will get resolved in time through ebay but just one more frustration and you can't do anything in the first 7 days of having received it unless you contact the seller which is what I did. My husband is an engineer though work is scarce right now and looked at it but I told him not to try to fix it because I wouldn't be able to return it and also why should he spend his Saturday and day off doing it? So the saga continues. I prefer the retractable after the iron fell on my head when stored on an upper shelf because of the cord making it unbalanced to sit on, I know silly reason but I just like it better and was sold after using the one at the Marriott. ... I will be calling them. I'm sure it wasn't even an expensive iron but I liked it so much and it had the retractable cord that didn't cause any problems when resting the iron (like balance problems). So far I have learned: I do not like any sort of coating on the sole plate of an iron. Search internet for bad reviews then take all reviews with a grain of salt especially the glowing ones... Made in Germany seems to have gone the way of made in the USA. It's impossible to find and a used one that is refurbished might have been a lemon model. Lastly, they sure don't make things the way they used to!!! We are not in Kansas anymore Toto......See MoreCubeDweller
