Comments (11)The strawberries were supposed to be white chocolate covered. But when I melted the chips in the microwave, it became grainy and wouldn't stick to the berries. So I made a simple icing with half & half and powdered sugar. That stuck to them really well and they still tasted good. I was going to cut the crescent roll dough in strips and wrap them around the little smokies to look like little mummies, but I ran out of time and ended up just tearing off pieces and wrapping them around the smokies. It tasted the same and saved a lot of time. It took me about 10 hours on Saturday to get all the food ready. I also had crinkle-cut carrots to go with the dip, but I had put them in a different crisper from the other veggies and forgot to put them out! Comments (8)One year I bought smaller size pumpkins along with enough black sharpees for each child to use as well as a number of colored sharpees for the kids to share. As the kids got older, the pumpkin project elevated to the carving stage. You can easily find the "kid friendly" pumpkin carving tools. I have several sets accumulated over the years. Most of the carving tool kits come with patterns as well. I have several books which I've photocopied the patterns for. I'd let each child pick an pattern and then they would carve away. It was a huge hit. I know you're thinking messy, but it really isn't if you plan it well. Lay out lots of newspaper on a table and when the kids are done carving you just have to roll it up and throw it away. You will have to help them "gut" the pumpkins, but I always did that in advance of the party. I love to carve and do several large pumpkins for decorating for the party and the kids loved the idea of carving, and the pumpkins made a great non-candy "party gift" as well. I also like the idea of baking cupcakes and letting the kids decorate their own. You can do the frosting ahead and just put out bowls of "decorating" stuff like gummy worms, etc. I think the Martha Stewart website may have some kid party ideas. I always enjoy watching her holiday shows, and I think she did one children's party if my memory serves me. Comments (2)I'm usually just a lurker here but I thought I'd let you know that I have some experience with this. Last year was my first Halloween at this job and we do office trick-or-treating here. It's on a volunteer sign-up basis. You can opt-out, donate just candy, donate candy and be a trick-or-treat stop, and you can bring your kids into the office from 3-5pm. Basically our department shuts down between 3 and 5pm. Some people go all out and decorate their cubes and even dress up. The only rule is nothing too scary since there are a lot of very little kids. I signed up to donate candy and be a 'stop'. My kids are older so they won't be coming in. Our department secretary coordinated the volunteers and she had balloons placed in the trick-or-treating cubes so that the kids could see where they could stop for treats. They just had to look up and if there were balloons, they new exactly what to do! I brought in 2 jumbo mixed bags of candy and I stopped at the dollar store and picked up some trinkets - plastic rings, Halloween pencils, stuff like that. I decorated my cube but didn't dress up. The biggest hit was the plastic rings that I grabbed on a whim! Who would have guessed?? It was the best time! So many people were new here last year and didn't participate, and wished they did. I heard that there is close to 70% employee participation this year and we're talking about close to 100 employees - similar to your group! Someone set up a conference room with decorations and crayons and the kids could go there and hang out to sort their candy. Plus the adults took a break from work. I think we also had drinks and paper goods from the cafe in there, but i don't remember exactly. It really was a great time and I can't wait to do it again this year. Comments (10)I've been making a yummy & easy fruit juice-based Halloween punch every year w/ our kids @ playcamp. We call it "Graveyard Punch", but I think "Vampire's Punch" is even more appropriate. It's basically 1 container each of purple grape juice & orange or pineapple/orange juice concentrates, which create a very bloodlike color, mixed w/ a about 3 liters (1 & 1/2 bottles) of seltzer (I use flavored, unsweetened seltzer; lemon-lime or raspberry ) & a cup or so of mashed strawberries (fresh or frozen), which look a lot like bloody pulp. The finishing touch is a dead man's hand (or 2) made from filling unpowdered disposable gloves w/ water & green food coloring w/ a drop or 2 of red added to make them a yucky green color & freezing them. If the fingers break off when unmolding - even better! I also made an optional garnish of soaked chia seeds - a.k.a. 'eye of newt' or 'frog's eggs'. Martha Stewart has some great ideas on her site. Full costume (the dress and hat were from a thrift store and I sewed black tulle to the hat. I also added strips of green tulle to the cape). Added tulle to the broom as well.
The shoes! I took my red heels I've been wearing for years for my costumes and transformed them into these with disposable pie tins, newspaper, tissue paper, glue and Mod Podge, black paint, and of course the black rhinestones. They were falling apart at the end of the night, but they got quite the compliments! :)

So, I decided to have a little fun last night and put on the costume that I originally wanted to wear for this year, but had to cancel it due to I couldn't find an essential piece of her dress (the gold detailed, bell-sleeved overcoat). Still, I hope you all enjoy it and that this particular costume will be completed next year :).

Sushipup, thank you! I haven't done much sewing on the machine until this year (the tulle on the cape and my cloak that I'm wearing for my Winnie costume).
Contemplating dressing up Monday night for fun, and I might do Winnie for the fun of it (and that way, my mum can take better photos of me).
Hocus Pocus came out when I was three years old and I grew up loving it ever since! Bette Midler dressed as Winnie for her annual charity event, Hulaween, tonight. She has said that it's her favorite film that she's ever done.
I even made Book! The one I am pictured with is a second copy I am planning on sending my favorite YouTubers since they LOVE Halloween, too. Here is my personal one I plan on using in the future.
