My New Greenhouse -- Warning, LOTS of Photos
Comments (10)Thanks for all the nice comments, guys. This greenhouse was a long time coming, and I'm thrilled to finally have it up and running. The floor is gravel right now, BTW. I may put something like pavers on top of it later ... and I might not. Craig's List has sites in Atlanta, Athens, Auburn, Brunswick, Columbus, etc., in Georgia. Pick one or two sites that are closest to you, and I bet you'll find users near by who are posting items that you can use. None of the materials I collected were right here in Fredericksburg. I have driven as far as 3 hours to get an item that I wanted -- the antique store doors that I'll use on my workshop building, for example. Most of the action on CL in my area is toward DC and Maryland .. which can be as far as 2 hours away (the skylights were in eastern Md.) I know it's still early in the season, but things are humming along fairly well. The only glitch so far was when the temps got down into the teens on Monday night -- my water line froze solid .. even with the heat tape on it. Fortunately roses can take the cold, so no harm was done ... except for a broken hose fitting. Now I have to make time to get DH out there with me so we can install the pool cover on the beams over head, to lower the ceiling and keep in a little more heat. I can see that hanging out here will help with my winter blues. I love seeing what everyone else is doing in their greenhouses, while everything outside is frozen. Comments (90)Walnutcreek, what a cool lamp! Somehow I'm really seeing that on a buffet or a console table. It would be gorgeous! Suero, that table is lovely. You're right, it's way more than I want to spend, but it's absolutely beautiful, as are all the other things on their web site. I like all the choices of woods and finishes too. Well, the budget's a problem. As is my lack of ability to make a decision. I'm currently stuck between the West Elm nesting coffee table paired with the Ethan Allen end table with drawer; and the Crate & Barrel Sims coffee table & matching end table. (For the second end table in either case, I'm going with that little orange metal table.) I think the wood on the Crate & Barrel tables is much nicer, but the tables themselves are a little boring; in addition the West Elm + Ethan Allen (gads, how many people pair *those* brands together?!) are more practical since they give me a drawer and a de facto shelf or two. Have read not such good things about West Elm quality - not sure if that applies to this table, which is constructed differently from their usual furniture. And it irritates me that I'd have to pay $70 in shipping, for this table!!! (And it doesn't even come assembled!) I don't know - there's the style thing. Maybe I just don't know who I am. I want to project a slightly funkier image than what I think I'm coming up with... maybe it's the carpeting that's the problem. The carpet ain't funky. And the funky furniture on top of the carpet just don't go. The furniture that goes with the carpet ain't so funky. I am *not* a fuddy-duddy! I'm NOT!!! (Or am I???)...See MorePartial reveal - I can't wait for counters (lots of photos)
Comments (32)I've already done some rearranging. I had plates in the corner, but my sons convinced me that they needed to be in the next cabinet over. I also swapped out a miscellaneous drawer with potholders (closer to the range). I have emptied every box, and I still have a few empty shelves! I used to store bulk purchases (cereal, soup, pop) on shelves in the laundry room downstairs - now there's room for everything in the kitchen. I finally have so many things that I wished I had! For example, a whole shelf for water bottles (we use them a lot): Knives are in a drawer now, instead of in two blocks on the counter: I built the drawer organizer for the utensil drawer yesterday: Potholder and tool drawers to the right of the range - and a peek at my Cambria sample:...See MoreUser
