Really need window treatment advice needed
Comments (11)Thanks everyone. I know it seems great to have all these windows and I am definitely not complaining, but we realize we could have had almost the same effect and light with 8 instead of 10 - and saved a lot of money (in cost of windows and framing) but the architect shows you the drawings and you think wow, that looks good, and you don't think about whether or not it will be practical in use. Our architect came up with that to remedy an really unfortunate addition done by former owner. They stuck on a weirdly designed very 1980's round addition to a 1920's Dutch Colonial - but in a completely different style from original and tried to make it look somewhat like a lighthouse. From the outside, it just looked like a big round mass of stucco, now it looks much better. But I digress... Anyway, that's a good idea about the remote control shades/blinds. Do you know if they work well over time. I like technology, but just want to make sure they are not repair prone. I guess I can search and see if there are any threads about that....See MoreAdvice Needed on Window Treatments for a Bay Window
Comments (6)I have a very similar window in my family room but, since it faces the woods, I leave it free of treatments and hang my sculpture pieces in it. I do have an idea though. Get regular drapes for each side and add a valence across the middle. You can place them higher on the wall than the window frame but not so high as to allow the top of a shade to show. When I did mine in my bedroom I did just that and then added duette fabric blinds that matched the drapes in color and also a room darkening shade on a rod that jutted out a bit more. That way, during the day I raise the shade and the fabric blind gets raised half way. In the evening I pull down both of them. You need to use a rod for the valence and drapery that extends out far enough to compensate for the two treatments that will be under the valence. Have I made that too complicated? It's actually very easy and I found it to be the most reasonable way. I bought the curtains at Country Curtain and the darkening shades and fabric blinds at Lowes....See MoreSunroom window treatment advice needed!

Comments (3)Your room is lovely. With your traditional trim and crown molding, you could add a wooden valence box to hide the hardware. I would prefer draperies or Roman shades over shutters in your room. Much softer and you can still enjoy your view.
