OT: Going to a Balinese wedding!

This is our fifth visit to Ubud and our fourth stay at the rural villa where we are now. We have become quite friendly with all the staff and in particular one of the housemaids, Dewi, who is so lovely and friendly, as well as her older sister Tatik who does not work here but teaches an after school English class which we visit every time we come to Ubud.

Last year when we came to Ubud, Dewi took us to her home where she lives with her parents and extended family (the Balinese traditionally live in a family compound which has lots of little personal rooms for sleeping and communal rooms for cooking and eating etc, and sitting out areas and so on, and the extended family all stays together- they think we're quite odd having children who move out at 18 and everyone living apart, especially in different towns, states or countries) and it was so nice to be welcomed into their private space.

Today Dewi was telling us that her cousin is being married tomorrow, with lots of distant relations coming from far and wide, and we asked if she would kindly take some photos so we could see. Instead she has invited us to the wedding! We had been invited to visit her parents again and Dewi assures us they will be very happy to see us at the wedding. How cool is that?

I should add that we were somewhat trepidatious to accept Dewi's invitation as we would not like to intrude, but we have talked it over with the manager here and he told us that tourists who are interested in Balinese culture as we are, are always welcome at ceremonies.
