A little OT on a day it shouldn't be so gloomy!
Comments (3)Wonderful post, Jim. My wife and I were married on October 14th, it was also a beautiful day-mid 70's and spectacular color. We married at Beaver lake (outside) and the geese were so loud, we had to yell our vows. We like to go to Lake Placid and walk around Mirror Lake to enjoy the foilage. One year we took the horsebuggy ride but I think the walk is more gratifying. You and Dale should try it. Happy Anniversary! Paul F B...See MoreOT: Ideas for wine-themed shower/wedding?
Comments (22)Well, I've made a basket to use for the cards at her shower.... because of the wine theme, I tried to weave what's supposed to look like an Italian urn. I bought a few fake grape clusters and raffia to decorate it. I was going to attach them to the handles or rim -- or maybe make a raffia "belt" to hang the grapes at the front of the basket 'belly'. I'm not really sure how to decorate it at this point. Maybe I should weave a completely different basket??? This pic shows the color/shape well -- I made it quite large because she'll only have one shower and it will be a 'fee' shower:...See MoreOT--Wedding table inspiration pics?
Comments (10)Here is a couple of sites that might help you get started. We used Michaels for alot of our inspiration for our daughters wedding. Michaels had these large vases with flowers on pedestals for $500 each that my daughter thought she couldn't live without and we made our own by sale shopping for $100 each. Wish I had some pictures downloaded and I would share with you. You may want to go to the wedding forum here and see if you can get some ideas. Let us know what colors you will be using and maybe we can help. The colors change quite often around here. http://www.yourweddingcompany.com/index.php/action/showGallery/gallery/centerpiece/ http://www.nisiesenchanted.com/featured_vien.html#...See MoreOT: Marge , going to Savannah
Comments (11)Savannah was great. Ideas I put in my trip book were to either eat before the flight or take something with you. You can bring food but not liquids. The meal they give you is a miscule snack bag. We went to Fort Pulaski out by Tybee Island and ate at the crab shack --pretty good food but my 95 year old Mom said--did they film "Deliverance" here? Fort Pulaski is a brick fort complete with moat and tunnels. Interesting to walk through. The Savannah River parallels Bay Street and below that are steep stairways to the River. Along the river are old customs buildings converted to restaurants, bars, tourist places. Great for oysters ($9.90) a dozen approx. Breakfast in the downtown area was more difficult. All the booklets for the traveler are a help depending on where you are. Be aware that service is slow and puzzling. Market street had only one place Bedford's that had breakfast early. A bakery place was closed. We also went down by the River and a few places were open for breakfast. cobblestone Alley had breakfast -right near the Crab Fiddler. Several places did not have shecrab soup. I wasn't impressed with their Clam chowder. The Lady and Sons has lunch and dinner --its Paula Deen's place and is within walking distance of Bay Street and Montgomery. We didn't discover them until we left--I'd look for them first. Soup for lunch and dinner sounds like a good idea but I think oysters or steamed dinner might be better. How many calories do you expend eating crawfish? Soup wasn't the thing they do best. Also I ordered mint juleps three times, and the bartenders said they didn't know how to make them. there is a free shuttle throughout the tourist area--go to the Visitor information booth near the Hyatt on the river, and find out what stops there are, and get ideas for how to get to places. That lady in the visitor info center is wonderful. Check tourist events, I think something is planned for this weekend. Last weekend there was a garden tour of severalhomes. Have a good time...See Morecolleenoz
