Maackia, your stewartias look great. Do you grow S.monodelpha? Mine are still green, but will eventually turn deep purple-maroon-black. The bark is a beautiful cinnamon. This year I found volunteers beneath my oldest tree, YAY!

My Stewartia monadelpha gives me seedlings also, and like yours, mine are still green.

Here's a Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Ogon' with Cunninghamia lanceolata 'Glauca' as a backdrop. Next time I'll focus better.

American Hornbeam and AB Maple are having good color years! Everything is about 1-2 weeks behind last year in my area.

Ken, I have not tried S. monodelpha. I believe it is less cold hardy than S. pseudocamellia, which is the only species I'm currently growing. I would like to try S. koreana, which supposedly has the cold hardiness I'd need, but with larger flowers.

November 2nd looking across the road to one of the local parks. Quercus ilex on the right foreground. Pinus sylvestris second right. The yellows are Liliodendron tulipifera. I have no idea what the other 2 conifers are. Anyone care to id them for me?

Too far away for me, floral. Don't look right for Norway spruce -- perhaps firs or another spruce species?

They look a lot like Lawson Cypress to me.

I know they're not firs of any sort. Lawson or Leyland are both possible. I don't take much interest in conifers so I've never looked closely at their identifying features.

Liriodendron does very well here. One of my favourite local trees is a 200 year old one in a square in the next street to mine.

I have to say, it is shaping up to be an above average year for color in oaks.

Albas are starting to look good. A few yellowish or brownish, but lots of red. Much like 2013, which was the last really good year for oaks. Alba here is quite variable for fall color.

A few specific individual trees always seem to color well, maybe 5-10% of them. About 15% rarely color much if at all. The remainder vary considerably year to year.

Coccineas almost always color well, but the red color is looking particularly deep and intense so far. We're still a couple weeks away from peak. Northern Red and Pin oaks, as well as others, also seem to be coloring well.

HERE is a link to the 'John Pair' maple in my post. It is from Caddo County, OK. Might be hard to believe but some of the more northerly selections of SM are already defoliated. How about that distinctive red color?

Here's one you might like. An aggressive seedling Japanese maple chasing a Cunninghamia. I was walking by and it caught my eye. It only works in the Fall. :-)

I had some white color falling the other day. Most snow ever recorded in november in this area. September was the warmest ever recorded here so it turned fast.

My Pin Oak, which colors reliably for me every year, has almost no color this year. It dropped about half its leaves a month ago, then stopped dropping them completely. Meanwhile, still not much color,. though it's leaves have begun trickling down again just in the last few days. I worry the early leaf drop was due to drought stress as we have severe water restrictions in my area.

Colors weren't all that intense this year but the long "freeze free" fall has been one that I don't think I've seen in years.

Yes they could use them, and there would be no legality issues. Nobody has stated that permission is needed, have copyrighted, or watermarked their photos.

This year my Dawn Redwood trees seem to have a more orange tint in their fall colours, probably either because of the severe long summer draught or the unusually warm fall. They are usually more dull brown.

May be true in practice, but not in law (for U.S.). Posters on this site retain ownership of their content and have not needed to display a copyright tag to protect this for many years. However, we all grant a very broad non-exclusive perpetual worldwide license to Houzz and their "affiliates, licensees and sublicensees, without compensation to you or others."

So, while Houzz folks could do just about anything they want with your content, you have not technically given up your rights to keep others from using it without permission/license.... just a VERY impractical thing for most individuals to enforce across the Internet.

Back OT... today (11/16) is average first frost for much of central north Texas and we're headed into record high territory around 85° F. Some spotty color, but most trees seem largely confused.

Flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) is reliably and persistently red in spite of the late heat slowing changes on most everything else in north Texas 8a. Finally dropped below 40° F last night for the first time since March, so colors should be picking up.

Parrotias. These are the same age. I pruned one as a shrub for about 25 years.

The large one lost it's leaves first, of course.

sam_md, thanks for posting the clarification. Nice uniform color on that 'Fire Blaze'. Also, according to these webpages (below) 'Fire Blaze' doesn't retain its leaves through the winter, and therefore the late winter / early spring flowers aren't obscured.
