Comments (24)I'm in Michigan so it wasn't much cheaper. I only bought the 3 year olds for two reasons, first the tree is cheaper to ship from not having soil. Second if your paying so much the extra couple dollars for a much nicer tree is worth it. i refuse to order less than 4 trees though. So I can get the 10% discount. i won't lie, I mainly buy four winds for the fancy tags. I don't like the price, and I don't like the rootstock. I do like the branching on the 3 year olds though. oh yeah, I've lost a tree from root wrapping and girdling. Four winds uses rooted cuttings for rootstock, that's a down side too. really briteleaf has the best dwarf rootstock, Harris is great too. If you don't care about branchy trees or fancy tags then skip four winds if the variety is available elsewhere....See MoreCitrus tree leaves Wilting: mandarin and Lime
Comments (7)Yes, there's plenty of hope for your trees, they look fine. They just need a little more water. I use my finger or a wooden dowel to check the moisture of the soil. What kind of sun will they get in the winter months? My trees are getting anywhere from 10-12 hours of sun now but 5-7 hours in the winter. Citrus trees are full sun lovers, you only have to protect them with a light shade cloth in their first growing season, after that they're fine without protection. As a cheap alternative to shade cloth I buy rolls of burlap on Amazon and use left over 2x4's or anything you can staple the burlap to and make a shelter directly over the trees and leave some clearance for growth. I also paint the trunks with water based flat white paint mixed 50/50 with water to protect them from sun burn. Evan...See MoreMy mandarin tree is dying.
Comments (22)Aha - indeed! it should recover to a producing tree... IF the new growth is from above the graft. I cannot the graft in the picture./. unless the graft is where the damage is? If the bottom leaves are same as the top ones that are dying / died then you are in luck. Sometimes the scion will sprout a new shoot just at the graft line and it will all work out. Investigate closely and if you decide to keep it, patience will / should reward you. Do you know by chance where the tree came from (source nursery) and the rootstock?...See Morecory (Zone 7a, NJ)
