Sumo tree I ordered from Harris citrus nursery!
Comments (24)Me too I'm amazed at the speed these trees are growing. I have no fruit yet but the new growth looks like it has some flower buds in it so hopefully I will get at least one sumo for next year. I have a greenhouse for winter so we'll see how it goes. Your tree looks beautiful by the way. Trace...See MoreHarris Citrus, BEWARE
Comments (59)The original post is very old. I wish it could be removed or modified as the title is so misleading for this excellent company. I have ordered from Harris several times over the years and as recently as this year and I have always got great trees and great service. I am very satisfied with them and would recommend them to others looking for reasonably priced trees. They also have a large selection and carry more unusual trees that you cannot get from other places. They have the Sumo/Dekapon/Shiranui that everyone is always looking for and Xie Shan, and so many more. I have at least 20 of their trees and all have grown well. Comments (5)Dave You are 100% right on that except my wife has put her foot down and said, WE ARE DONE WITH THIS STUPID CITRUS CRAP, WE ARE SPENDING NO MORE MONEY ON THIS VENTURE. I inherited 2 Meyer lemon trees that are now doing very well. My sweetlee tangerine trees are in ground and nearing maturity. each of the 2 have around 60 to 80 feet of linear growth and are well balanced in shape and limb spread. I have no room for 2 kumquat trees. The other fact is my figs are so much easier to grow and PRODUCE figs and are anything but fussy or cantankerous. Comments (26)Sorry Alanna, I wasn't able to find the exact threads where I first read about those varieties but I've found some using the search bar on gardenweb. I also have some outside links for them too. Ponkan is described by jadegarden & Silica in this old thread https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/4850719/my-first-kishu?n=27 Okitsu taste mentioned by hoosierquilt in this old thread around Nov27 https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/1847984/first-satsumas-of-the-season?n=49 Fruitmentor held a taste test in the past and Okitsu ranked 1st among 18 satsuma varities, Xie Shan ranked 3rd http://www.fruitmentor.com/okitsu-wase-satsuma -- http://www.fruitmentor.com/owari-satsuma-mandarin-orange Alot of info on citrus varieties on this site. You can find Dobashi Beni on the next table under "Later ripening" http://citruspages.free.fr/mandarins.html#okitsu A good thread for reading about other varieties and the reasons people love them https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/1832973/top-5-citrus-you-cant-live-without?n=48 Unfortunately doing all that research has made me consider a few more alternate varieties :(! It is now: Gold Nugget Sugarbelle (Minneola x Clementine cross, sweeter than Minneola but also more tart) Page (also Minneola x Celmentine cross) Shiranui/Ponkan Xie Shan Okitsu/Browns select (Browns select is supposed to be less weepy and more upright/compact) Lee x Nova/Daisy (SL version is the Daisy but irradiated) My boyfriend is demanding I choose which tree to receive as a birthday gift but I can't possibly choose from the list!! I'm putting off the decision for as long as I can. Let us know which ones you go for to help those of us also unable to decide lol!...See MoreMonica bf N. Carolina zone 7B
