Im not sure what a makeup table is. but if it means a place where I can slide a chair underneath, yes I have one. Yes I use it. Yes, I would miss it.

We have a make-up vanity in our hall bathroom. It's large with drawers, a mirror, and a place for a stool. It's never been used. Never. Not when I was a teen in this house, not by either of my two girls (who are now 19 and 22), not by the visiting cousins or all the friends preparing for school dances. It's literally never been used.

My grandmother did create a make-up vanity for herself in her bedroom when she was quite elderly. She did it because she needed a place where she could SIT to do her hair and make-up. I know light was an issue for her at that point, so she placed it next to a windows.

Bossyvossy, yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I actually have used such a "table" when visiting my cousin, but hers isn't in the bathroom, it's in an outer dressing room area.

I actually DO have a seating area in the current bathroom which, like Mrspete, I have not used in the 40 years that I;ve lived in this house, but the way the room is now it's small and tight. With the renovation I should have more room, but I'm wondering if that will really make a difference to me.

We are renting a place in FL now that has a sit down vanity space between the two sinks. Yes I do use it but when I'm back in NY, I don't miss it. I only use it to put on makeup. I still stand to dry my hair. I'm wondering if I need one because I'm designing an old person's home.

We had one in the guest bathroom, in 17 years, no one (including all the guests) had used it even for once. We removed it when we remodeled the guest bathroom, also raised the counter to kitchen counter top height. We really love the extra storage space.

I'm installing one - but it will be counter height - not sit down. I figure it will be more versatile also - for placing things, shaving, makeup, etc.. I haven't decided if I am adding a seating part, but I think it will just be a bank of cabinets with a mirror, or maybe I will just set a makeup mirror on the counter.

Had one on 'my' side of the bathroom when we first built. While I used the counter, I never used it as a sit-down space. So when we re-modeled a couple of years ago, I replaced the opening with a cabinet with a pull-out drawer for my hair dryer. The electrician moved an outlet, so now I can store my hair dryer and any appliances or hair tools behind closed doors. Plus I gained another shelf below for other items and still have the drawers above.

I had one in our last house. I used it for sitting the laundry basket on while putting clothes away- but never used it once otherwise.

How close do you stick your nose to the mirror to put on your makeup? If "not close at all," then you might like a seated makeup area. If "close," then you'll be standing up all the time to get close enough to see.

That's a good point, Greendreamhome, about how close I like to be to the mirror, but if I do put in a vanity table, I will put in an extendable magnifying make-up mirror as well. I've got such a mirror now, and I use it even when standing.

We did one in our recent remodel at my husbands insistence. I used to "perch" on the counters and do my hair/makeup. He was adamant that I had a place to sit. I use it every day now and love it. I did have to get a magnifying mirror since I'm not sitting as close to the mirror as I used to.

make up vanity

Our contracter suggested a vanity when we remodeled a few years ago--I love it and use it---so much that we are looking to downsize and that's one thing I would love to have again!!

We don't have one in our master, so I use the one in the hall bathroom on a daily basis. Luckily, we are empty nesters, so I am not interfering with anyone's use of the bathroom. If/when we remodel the master, I am definitely putting in a vanity.

I love your drawer for hair appliances. Do you have the hairdryer plugged in somewhere in the vanity, or do you use the outlet I see above the counter?

How deep is your counter? Ours will be pretty narrow, about 18 inches; I don't know if that should affect my decision or not.

Finally, I see the full run of the countertop is the same height. May I ask how high the counter is? I feel like 30 inches is a typical table/desk height, but most vanities are about 35 inches high. Did you make that counter 30 inches or so high? I'd prefer to have one long counter and not break it up into 2 levels, so the vanity will be low enough to sit at comfortably.
