I can't use the mineral stuff..makes my face itch and it doesn't cover well enough (I've tried several different brands too).

I'm getting ready to try Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid next time I am at the mall. It got lots of good reviews (no bad ones that I saw). Right now I have the following foundations in my bathroom: Shiseido The Makeup Lifting foundation, CoverGirl Outlast, CG Trublend, L'Oreal Visible Lift, Vital Radiance Line Softening, Rimmel Renew and Lift, Almay Line Smoothing, Isadora Velvet Touch. I have even more foundations in the hall closet!

I have odd dry, oily, break-out prone wierd skin. Some work okay in the summer, others in the winter. Still looking for the Holy Grail in foundations. I am happy with most any type of blush, lipstick and mascara.

What a fun thread! I made the loop potholders as a little girl. I liked to polish sticks up and desparately wanted a rock tumbler but my parents said it was a gimmick and wouldn't buy me one. (A couple years ago i visited CalamityJ and she gave me one, finally!) I was so excited when I learned to sew in 8th grade at school. I taught myself to embroider around the same time, my mom embroidered but didn't sew. My Memere (Mom's mom) did everthing, and very well. I also one of those plastic children's looms as a little girl but I wasn't very good at it. I remember the knitting knobby but didn't do well with it. I just saw some things - necklaces- at the farmers market made out of those "ropes" from the knobby today! Somewhere along the way I learned to knit and crochet, but I prefer crochet. I used to make and sell terrariums in Almeden wine bottles. And I macrame'd in my late teens and early 20s. I had one of those piggy banks made from a bleach bottle made by my Memere. My other grandmother was a cook and a gardener, but she got one of her friends to crochet clothes for a little doll that I still have and love. One Christmas my mom and Memere knitted me a whole shoe box of beautiful Barbi clothes. Memere made my Chatty Cathy an incredible wardrobe as well. I think many of these things are still at my Mom's house. My mom gave the old doll carriage that had been hers and then mine to my niece, her grandaughter, and I haven't dared to ask her what happened to it now that she is grown up. My Memere made a little quilt for it to go with when it was passed on to me, and I wish I had that little quilt. I have some of my Mememre's quilts, and I have an unfinished one that I started for me. In more recent years I decoupaged a lot, especially some lamps. I scrapbooked a lot for several years, now I'm wondering if I should get rid of the supplies. And I have so much glass for the plate flowers and totems, and molds for concrete objects. Now I am mosaicking. I wonder if I'll ever settle on one or 2 things? Kathy

Kate, my dear, you aren't living in a fog - just a mist, LOL. Most machines have enough top tension adjustment to cope with almost anything, so you wouldn't have to adjust the bobbin tension. I sew everything from upholstery fabrics with heavy-duty nylon upholstery thread to delicate cotton lawn and batiste with a 60 weight thread. I piece with balanced tension, but embroider with far more tension on the bobbin (to pull the top thread to the back). I keep two bobbin cases marked for embroidery and general sewing.

Carnuba wax is not just for the collectible machines, the wax is a good protectant for any metal machine. The primary reason that it's popular is because it protects the decals so that you don't have to worry about using the machine. I second Teresa's comments about using a Featherweight. They aren't considered antiques by collectors because they aren't old or rare enough to qualify. The reason they are still getting such good prices is because they are good machines to USE. It's actually quilters that are driving the up the prices because they want them for taking to retreats. Annie

Have been scarce on here lately as we are STILL trying to nail down someone to do our kitchen, but.... Hands down the most important thing of being here is that reading and watching others has helped me really THINK about how I use my kitchen and what will work best with the compromises that I need to make...we typically all have some compromise levels in our remodels or builds, so I've come up with ones that are "workable" to me. I think about the kitchen that I almost would have had...and it would have been new. But disfunctional or at least not as functional as it should have been. There are going to be touches of GW throughout our kitchen. While I'm not going with the typical look (we've planned dark floors and dark cabinets...certainly not the favored look here), there will be a lot of things gathered from here that will be implemented into our new kitchen. We're going with induction - would have never had the guts to pull the trigger on that if not for here - none of our family or friends have it. Almost all drawers rather than roll-outs (why didn't I think before of how silly it is to open a door, roll out a drawer and then reverse the process. Way easier to go with a drawer. What to aim for in terms of construction of cabinetry. I honestly had very little clue before. Plugmold and LED strip lights - would have known next to nothing about neither of those. And so, so much more.

Vannie, my daughter and I used Bare Minerals for a long time (too much shimmer for me). We sent for a sample of Everyday Minerals and never went back to BM.

The samples are very generous and you can send for as many as you want (small charge). There are four different foundation choices.

For those that can't use BM you might want to try Everyday, the ingredients are different.

I use Lancome for the most part but they recently changed a formula on their liquid eyeliner so I switched that to a pencil from Revlon.

For those of you on the mineral type of foundation, do you find them drying at all?

I have a whole collection of Bare Minerals that I've never even used that was a gift from a friend. I'm not sure how to use it. I have oily skin and can't stand the feeling of foundation.

The only makeup I use is lipstick, never was into makeup...and I don't care what the brand is, I just grab somethig at the drugstore.
It takes me a couple of years to go thru a lipstick, I often forget to put it on.

I dont wear lipstick. No matter what shade it is, i look like a hooker in lipstick.

I use mostly Estee Lauder, but use the cheapie eyeliner pencils.

I don't wear foundation. I like translucent pressed powders, currently Incredible Finish by Avon.

Lipsticks by Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Clinique (thanks to eBay for those three), and Revlon, L'Oreal, and Almay.

Various eye pencils and shadows.

Moisturizer is Chanel.

Eye shadow, liner, and mascara are Chanel.

Foundation is Jane Iredale (mineral) - usually the loose powder, but sometimes I use the liquid.

"Amazing Matte" loose finishing powder (mineral) by Jane Iredale.

Blush is usually Jane Iredale (mineral), but occasionally I'll put on a Chanel blush.

Lipstick is either Jane Iredale (mineral), Chanel, or Estee Lauder, depending on what color I'm using that day.

I don't really wear makeup. On the very rare occasions that I do (we're talking like once a year here), it's Estee Lauder.

I should buy new stuff. Mine is pretty old.

I use all L'oreal products. Mainly because in this small town the only place to buy cosmetic's is at Wal-Mart.

When I lived in Houston I used Clinque! I would order on line, but my skin tone changes with the seasons.

Does anyone know of a good cream blush that doesn't immediately disappear or turn into a dry powder? One that stays dewy and has staying power?

Another Bare Minerals user here. Been using it for at least 5 years now, only stuff I've EVER found that not only covers all of my redness (lupus rash and rosacea) but also stays on and doesn't slide off the end of my nose in a puddle in this humidity. I use everything: the primer, foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, lipstick, you name it, lol! Seems like a lot but I have my routine down to about 8 minutes in the morning.

Marion - I can't *believe* out of all the time we had talking on Sunday that subject never came up, lol! I'll have to take you under my wing and show you how to use it all, hehe! Though you have pretty skin, you don't need it!

Clinique here for everything but mascara. Mascara is Elizabeth Arden brown/black. And Lip-Kist (like chapstick) by Arizona Sun. Sometimes I wear a lip gloss by Max Factor.

Lynn, I hit the button before I answered your question. I don't find BM drying at all. In fact my skin looks the best it ever has since I've been using it. It takes a little practice getting enough or not too much on but I really like it now that I've got that figured out.

Eyeshadow SallyGirl (from Sally's Beauty Supply)
Cover Girl Blush.

That's it! No lipstick...can't stand the way it feels on my lips.

oooh didn't even see the question about drying, sorry!

I have to agree with Mammie's post. I do sometimes use a regular moisturizer (in the winter, when the humidity's not so bad) but I let it soak in completely before I put on my minerals.

My skin really does look the best it ever has, I'll have a few hormone related breakouts every now and then, but my pores are smaller, the texture's as even as it's ever been, and my oilies are under control.

OOOH also, for those of us that us the mineral makeup, found a "hot" tip - after you've done the "once-over" with your foundation, warm your brush slightly with your hair dryer and buff again. You won't believe how much smoother it is, it helps it just melt and blend right together. I find I can use even LESS minerals doing it this way.

Another Bare Minerals gal all the way here.

I tried the Everyday Minerals, and it was quite nice, but I went back to the Bare Minerals because I found it less talc-y.

April, thanks for the tip on warming the brush. I'll have to try that!

Moisturizer: Nivea with SPF 15 (works well for both day and night). I had used Lancome and it didn't work as well for my skin.
Liquid foundation: Lancome
Cleanser: Oil of Olay (love this stuff!)
Make up: Various brands, depend on the choice of colors. However, for mascara, I love Maybelline's.

I recently had my skin tested with a Facial Skin Analyzer machine. The result showed the only dry spots were the eyebrow areas. Guess, I needed to start using skin care there too.
