Christian Extremists Blame Gays For Hurricane Matthew
Comments (28)I live in a 55+ community in Florida and they have canceled all organized activities (including trash collection for tomorrow) until Saturday due to the threat of the weather event. This hurricane won’t affect me. It is simple, I have a sign on my roof. Most people cannot see it, even the missus. Basically, it indicates that “Jim” lives here. Significant weather events just pass by. Every time I move, I bring the sign with me. To show that effective it is, a few moments ago I looked at the weather radar and it showed several of the ‘outer bands’ of this current hurricane approaching the county where I live. The sign did the trick, all dissipated before getting close to my place. The same thing happened with hurricane Hermine in August. We had the hurricane warning in effect and I got a couple of small branches that fell and less than 2” of rain in 24 hours. The sign was working its magic. Are you worried about weather events? You might try a sign on your roof like mine. Although you might need to use my name, I don’t know about that!...See MoreHow to save roses after Hurricane Matthew
Comments (6)Thanks, Seil. My favorite mature rose, Cynthia, is about 6x3 & is half out of the ground. Would you recommend pruning her, and if so, how much? We will not get freezing temp here for probably 6-8 weeks. The smaller ones that are partially uprooted, should I prune them a bit? Quietness was a new band in May, but has grown to about 2x2 round ball of a rose bush. His leaves are looking droopy tonight, like a stem in a vase without water. Roots are a bit exposed; I just don't have anything tonight to use for soil to cover. Should I prune Quietness to make it a smaller, more narrow plant? Double Delight will have to be put in a pot; she is in a small sinkhole now. Harlekin was broken by Hermine over labor day weekend & is now a big sloppy mess. Can I cut this climber down to ~4ft at this time of year? We are months from cold weather. The others don't look too difficult to help: straighten, stake, cover with soil? I am thinking don't tamp down the soil covering too much? Underneath is just saturated soil. Does making holes with a probe or stake really help the soil dry better? How far out from the perimeter of the bush should the holes be? I think I want to move. Maybe to a condo & just grow roses in pots. Sigh. Thanks, all, for your help & empathy...See MoreHurricane Matthew winds/ leaning banana trees
Comments (1)An expert has this to say: "Even if the plant is "folded" by the wind, as long as there is some connection remaining in the flower stem, the fruit will ripen normally. It is better to leave the damaged stalk "as is" rather than damaging it further by trying to straighten or move it." If you have fruit, I'd put something down between the fruit and the ground and keep it dry. The quote is from Jon's Encanto Farms website: http://webebananas.com/ Good luck!...See MoreHurricane Matthew wind damage
Comments (12)Yes there are other people in dire need right now which is why I am not really pushing for anyone to come here, just inquiring about a time frame. My neighbor currently has a huge loblolly at maybe 50 degrees caught in one of my loblolly's that’s leaning directly towards my house and he can’t even get anyone to remove or even come look at that. A few strong winds and I may have a hole in my house so I do understand how widespread the urgency is and how overwhelmed the professionals are. I have trees on my property that are actually down on the ground, I am just looking to salvage what I have left....See Moreeeyore94sooregon
