Can you beat the Tx Heat? + 2nd year notes
Comments (8)Peppers love heat and truthfully...I don't live that far from you and my peppers last year just kicked in and never stopped...At frost I was still picking peppers. They like plenty of water but my suggestion would be...water them well ...nice and deep and make them work for water ...the roots will start digging in and you won't have to water every day....I really don't think you need to shade peppers. .I just believe that one good solid watering is way better than surface watering every day. I live in Kerrville and my garden is doing well. I got a late start because of some health issues but it's going good now.. I picked my first mess of green beans yesterday......See MoreCome join us! - 2nd Annual Tomato and Pepper Seed Exchange
Comments (16)Hi everyone, I've received a question and a suggestion and thought it would be worth clarifying in this open forum. This swap is a surprise swap. I will be guided by your wish lists or preferences if you choose to send me that information, but I cannot guarantee anything. What you receive in return is completely dependant on the seeds that are sent in. Most of us that participate in exchanges love the element of surprise. I recognize that some do not, but those people would not typically participate in a group exhange like this. I was asked if I would be willing to create a public web page and post all of the seeds that have come in and people can pick and choose what they want. The simple answer is no. That's not the nature of this swap. Please understand that it takes a lot of work to compile the information and organize everything to manage a swap with this many people and I just cannot get involved in that kind of complicated work. I fully expect to be receiving at least 3000 seed packs that have to be managed. I work 12 hours a day on average, so I need to keep it simple for me at the moment. I have been involved in swaps like that in the past and I do not favour them personally. For the simple reason, that they often end up being a free for all and those that have the luxury of being on the computer at any time during the day, always end up getting first dibs on the more rare seeds. Not fair at all to those that work during the day and won't get to their computers until night. The folks that have limited computer access ultimately end up feeling disappointed and disadvantaged. I believe the swap can be handled fairer by taking into consideration everyone's wishes. I do my best to be fair and make sure you're getting a good selection. Compiling a wish list or even letting me know if there are seeds you do not want helps to guide me through the process. It's certainly a good idea, but it's an idea that's best implemented by someone else hosting another swap with a different theme. I hope this helps to clarify. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks....Heather...See MoreNEW: 2nd Annual I.E. Pick-A-Peck of Peppers Swap
Comments (145)Good Morning, Everyone! Smoke, thank you for the photos and info on those peppers. I hope you don't think I was trying to discourage anyone from trying them, I just felt bad that I couldn't give them any information on them. Wouldn't it be neat if we could name one of the peppers Smoke's Mystery Pepper, or Smoke's Russian Roulette Pepper? You would be famous : ) BTW, do you grow your own Mexican Oregano, or buy the dried leaves somewhere. I have a perennial herb bed, and grow lots of annual herbs in pots, but haven't tried to grow that one yet. I do know that my dried herbs taste waaaay fresher than what you can buy at the grocery store. My husband bought a smoker a year or two ago, but I hadn't really given any thought to making my own dry rubs before. He can't tolerate much heat, but maybe I can come up with a blend that incorporates some milder peppers as well. Thank you for the inspiration!!! Thank you, Tanya and Randy, for the kind words! Even though the swap has been kind of time consuming, I have learned so much from all of you pepper enthusiasts, and have been able to try a few new varieties, so I think it has totally been worth it. I hope you guys will feel that way too, when you get your packages back. Tanya - The Naga Morich is gone, but I've added the following to your package: Bhut Jolokia Cascabella A Smokemaster mystery pepper Randy - The Volcano is gone, but I've added the following to your package: Black Pearl Quadrato Rosso D'Asti PI 260250 PI 438638 I'll check back later today. I've got to run to the post office to drop off the first batch of packages. Bonnie...See MoreCome join us! - 2nd Annual Tomato and Pepper Seed Exchange
Comments (27)Hi Golbar, Thanks for the suggestion, but I prefer not to follow that route...for a couple of reasons. This swap is intended to be a surprise swap. I will not be posting a master list of seeds. I will be guided by your wish lists or preferences if you choose to send me that information, but I cannot guarantee anything. What you receive in return is completely dependant on the seeds that are sent in. Most of us that participate in exchanges love the element of surprise. This is my personal preference for hosting a swap. You'll find other hosts will try different themes at different times. I have been involved in swaps like you suggest in the past and I personally do not favour them. Please understand that it takes a lot of work to compile the information and organize everything to manage a swap with this many people and I just cannot get involved in that kind of complicated work. I fully expect to be receiving at least 3000 seed packs that have to be researched and managed. I work 12 hours a day on average, so I need to keep it simple for me at the moment. I hope this helps to clarify. Thanks for the suggestion though..it's just not something I can undertake for this swap. Thanks....Heather...See Morewoohooman San Diego CA zone 10a
