New house on our street sitting crooked
Comments (58)just had to copy & paste these statements: "The whole enclave is ostentatiously poorly designed. Very depressing. It's just another example of where a random collection of bumpouts, gables, and disconnected rooflines on postage stamps approved by a committee are considered to be "upscale" because so much money has been spent on that bad design. " The whole development appears to be crammed into undersized lots to maximize builder profit on th eland investment. this is an interesting statement from the OP, so I will go ahead and quote it: "....complaining about issues that can't be changed is childish" How is this different then complaining about this house? In fact, if all houses were for sale, theirs would be the FIRST I would buy. Y'all are reading my mind...its uncanny! I really hate threads with folks talking smack about the neighbor's tacky house..one person's tacky house is another's dream home... best of luck OP....See MoreSince it was asked...
Comments (74)Is it safe to come back in the water? I've been around since the days before you had to register to post and it was free, 1998 or 1999 maybe. I have done a few spins in the teacups in years past. I have also been banned twice. I have a mind and I speak it. I have since been far more restrained. I was once Browntoes, then Browntoestoo, now BarnMom. The first two were references to gardening in sandals the couple of years I lived in Napa where I first discovered Garden Web. The last one I chose when Alice gave up gymnastics and took up equestrian sports or I would have been GymMom. The irony is that I have not a rural bone in my body. I am an urban woman to the core. I am a good sport about Alice's FFA animals but really, I do not like flies or manure or dust. I remember Roger and the cornbread discussions. Because of the grits debate I also went and bought a box of grits to try. They were okay with lots of cheese and butter. I think it's one of those things one has to grow up eating to truly embrace, like pickled pigs feet, or biscuits and gravy. I also remember Janet and Marlen, BethinTokyo, Mique, Ryder, and some others I miss. This a community with its own culture - a culture of loyalty, kindness and good natured tolerance 99.9% of the time. Eileen...See MoreAbuse or am I overreacting?
Comments (44)"You have to take some of the responsibility for having burglarized; you know people break into houses, & yet you didn't have a burglar alarm, & you had nice things in your home." I do take responsibility for that - I have insurance, my insurance company says I must be responsible for installing window locks, and alarm. But I know I could be robbed, and I have been. It would be irresponsible of me NOT to make some preparation for a bad event. "I never have heard anyone say, "You have to take some of the responisibility for having had your car stolen. What made you think nobody would steal a nice car like that?" I am responsible for where I park it...for having it insured etc, I drive a boring car that nobody would want to steal. These are things I have done to lesson the chances of me becoming a victim. If we are responsible for our behavior, surely, in the terrible event we become a victim, we will move through the trauma process a lot more smoothly and eventually end up in a place of forgiveness. If we think of ourselves as a "victim" then how do we get over the trauma ?...See MoreFIBREX Composite Windows !!!! The Wave of the Future
Comments (226)@dottt1, they call it APC, its in the family of cellular PVC with some secret sauce mixed in as I understand it. No wood component, but stronger than vinyl, welded unlike fiberglass, and solid lineals without chambers. Great window. On the air sealing and birds, I'd agree with Todd on all points. If the home was built in the last 25 years, there was a time where they were being sealed up pretty tightly without adequate ventilation causing indoor air quality issues. The remedy however is not to get leaky windows or leave areas unsealed, but to have systems in place for that to be controlled and dialed in to balance air leakage (energy efficiency) with air exchange (air quality). An energy auditor or home performance consultant would be the go to if you ever wanted to explore that....See MoreMtnRdRedux
