Embarrassing doubt!
Comments (16)We will have to agree to disagree. As I mentioned, I have tried the travel buff color. A very good friend is a model, and travel buff is the color used on the catwalk at shows when hose are used, which is very rarely nowadays. Of all the hose colors available, travel buff is the look I dislike the most. Many years ago I was a bridesmaid in my SIL's wedding (black tie). All of the attendants wore travel buff with navy dresses. I look at the pictures now and wonder what were we thinking? My MIL also modeled professionally for years, and chose the hose color for the attendants. We all wore them for uniformity. Hose were definitely mandatory for the wedding party as it was black tie, but the look of the very elegant understated dresses were ruined by the hose color. I have seen women in sandals (dress/formal) with the hose without the toes. I think it makes a very "geriatric" look. I don't mind the very sheer jet black hose with a formal dress in the cold months, but otherwise for me it is no hose. Most womens' legs look great with a little sunless tanner and a great pedicure. Terrible veins are another matter. Women afflicted with them have little choice but to wear hose. As for professionalism, I work in a very professional environment, and will say there are some situations when hose are a "must". Most of my female collegues will opt for a formal pant suit for those situations rather than don the hose in order to wear a suit skirt. With the exception of that instance, I think a leg sans hose is much more natural look, especially in a social setting such as a wedding during the summer months. I responded to this post as I just had this particular issue with my mother with regard to an upcoming summer wedding. I convinced her to try it both ways prior to the wedding. A good pedicure and a quality sunless tanner on her legs was definitely the better look. The toeless hose with the sandal made her look much older. My mother is a very young 72 (and I don't mean tart-young), so she was concerned that no hose would give her a "trying to look too young" look. Once she saw how great the dress looked with the sunless tanner and no hose, she was very pleased and comfortable with no hose. What woman wants a binding extra piece of clothing on a hot day? My own opinion is that hose make a woman look much older when worn with a sandal, as well as give a very dated look. If you wear the hose for tummy control, there are so many underpinning options available now, they make control top pantyhose obsolete. I guess it is just a matter of personal preference. I think if you like hose, go for it. However, I don't feel it is necessarily a better look for everyone....See MoreWhat makes women look 'good' when they're 'older'
Comments (150)jt...that is a worrisome description you give of your friend. The combination of eating the french fries and then describing how thin she is and the condition of her teeth leads me to think that she is purging by vomiting, known as bulimia. The stomach acids eat away the enamel on the teeth. It is very very common. I ran with a friend that did it. I finally confronted him after hearing him in the bathroom. We would eat lunch and he would have all of this stuff that one wouldn't think a runner would eat. Then he would always have a reason for going to the bathroom. i followed him and listened. So sad. He also would stop by the trail to supposedly urinate but he was actually vomiting the snacks/lunch we had eaten. He was able to finally get it under control. As an aside he is a clinical psychologist Phd. My DD had a friend in high school who also purged. Her Mom found glass jars of vomit in the girl's closet. Really really sad. The Mom is an MD and did seek help but it was very hard for this gal to accept help. She had to go away to a facility in order to get well. The disorder is extremely addicting and consequently very hard to get over. Here is a link. c Here is a link that might be useful: bulimia and famous people...See MoreWhy don't women want a nice guy???
Comments (43)angelheart7 has a point. We try to describe it in a hundred different ways. Your level of confidence, if you are assertive or go for what you want in life (which was mentioned about nice guys not being aggresive) as well as being TOO aggresive (which someone else mentioned and felt it was a catch22) But, it's really not. The extreme of either is going to be less attractive, and as angelheart7 pointed out, it really does have more to do with that positive energy that you give out that other people can sense. It's not just about women/men relationships either. It's something that any other human can sense about you. Some people call it karma, some call it self fulfilling prophesies, auras, and who knows what else. The reason people say go exercise, is because this tends to increase confidence and energy which means you start acting differently. You walk around feeling good about yourself, looking cheerful and happy which then makes you a more positive person for people to want to be around. It doesn't have to be exercise, it could be any hobby or activity that makes you feel good about life. A few people have made really good points as well in regards to what it means to be a "nice guy". There's a difference between a guy who is nice, respectful, with a lively personality, a love for life, motivation and inspiration.. and a guy who is a rug and will let the girl he is interested in step all over him because he's "nice" and doesn't want to rock the boat. Girls DO like nice guys, but they don't like rugs. I don't know and of you guys who posted personally, so i can't give any specific insight as to why one guy in particular is coming across wrong to women or why they are not interested. It is much much more complicated than simply being "nice" or "not nice". There are so many different definitions of what it means to be nice. And it still depends on what girls you are aiming at as well. What it is they are looking for in a partner, and the body language signals you are giving in return. Maybe being nice is your best quality? Who knows! fyi as an interesting side note, they've done scientific research as well that shows women are attracted to more "cave man" types which are the rugged square faced guys (bad boys) when they are more likely to get pregnant, and attracted to guys with softer more feminine features otherwise. (guys who are more likely to stick around and raise the kids theory). So, it's true there is a lot of chemical stuff going on between men and women as well that we are usually unaware of. More than we realize....See MoreWhy do some women act so dumb???
Comments (28)Carla,, to answer your first question,"why did I warn her to pull the jars she had opened?", At the time I was not feeling particularly vindictive. I figured just the public embarassment of being caught in the act and facing both the store manager and their security probably would have been sufficient to convince her not to repeat the act in future, and if she was to actually pay for the items she opened it would be sufficient restitution... Now in regards to how much of the product that was removed from the shelves, I have no way of knowing because that took place after Jan & I left the store. Our Walmart store is less than 2 miles from our house and sad as I am to admit it, Jan & I probably go there 3 to 4 times a week, sometimes just to browse the store and basically duck the heat for a bit...LOL. On one of our subsequent trips to the store I once again ran into the manager, who tossed me a quick thumbs up when he saw me,,,LOL.. He and I talked a moment and I asked him what legal action they could have taken? I said that since she did not leave the store with any unpaid items it was not shoplifting or petite theft so what action could they take? He said, "you may remember a few years ago when they had a lot of problem with ppl tampering with over the counter meds by putting poison in some of them?" "Yes, I remember there was a problem with Tylenol and a couple other products" He said that as a result of that activity nearly all states have passed very strict laws about "Product Tampering". According to the manager when that womans case went to araignment court the next morning she fooishly pled guilty, no doubt thinking it is not a big deal. But the Judge took it real serious. He sentenced her to 5 yrs, suspended but she has to participate in a probation program for that 5 yrs and if she doesn't meet the probation rules she will have to serve the remaining sentence. In addition, she was ordered to pay a restitution to the store equal to the cost of all products that were subsequently removed from the shelf and she has a permanent restraining order prohibiting her from entering that Walmart store....See Morecupofkindnessgw
