I usually take leaves off to make room for cut & trim rosette with about 2" of stem. Then i put rosette back in same pot, to root & fill out pot. I toss leaves into said pot as well.

I would follow what Frank said...they are not extremely leggy, but each has enough stem to behead IMO.

Fred Ives always grows long stem, regardless how much light he gets here (I think that it is their habit anyway?). I just cut off part of one yesterday, and there is more to go. That one will grow babies from stem without any leaves at all.

I agree with Rina, most of them are still small, I would leave most of them as they are until Spring in your part of the world, unless you still get a month or so of mild weather. And yes, 'Fred Ives' grows like that anyway, so I would leave it to produce offsets by itself.

I actually love the look of #1, it has that 'aged' look of group planting, a sort of Bonsai quality to it.

The two that I would consider chopping now are #2 'Debbi', and #6 G. superbum, or just wait until Spring.

Frank, I'm in northern Florida. So they'll be slowing down a little but not too much, and honestly, I'm scared to cut them - more than I'm scared of losing them. The #1 plant was my first chubby - started my addiction to succulents. Amazed it's still alive!

I can definitely cut the Superbum - I have a spare of that, and the Debbie has a little pup of her own, so if I mess it up, I'm covered.

Rina - it is a PvN, just a funny angle and my camera lens distorted her a bit. Rarely look at the underside of them. :)

I'd lop them with enough stem on the head to be sure it'll root. My experience with lopping off succulents is that the head tends to grow nicely, but the butt-end doesn't do nearly so well. I'm sure that varies with climate, but here in grey, cool Oregon, butt-ends stay butt-ugly for a long time (I have pictures if you want to see).

Thanks. I've only successfully lopped one plant (a large curly Echeveria) and the head survived but the stalk never did much. I'll let y'all know how brave I get. :)

the cat knocked the top and lower leaves off this superbum a couple of months ago. Superbum looks much better as single rosette,but stem is looking interesting,

comes down to personal taste-I like compact rosettes.

Ooh - I love the pupped-up stem on your superbum. I have two, so I can experiment with one. :)

Dave, once all the pups grow bigger and fill up, I think it will look wonderful! My superbum is about 1/2 foot tall single rosette and getting very top heavy. It was growing quietly in the corner of my balcony, and I finally pulled it out of its corner a few weeks ago to chop, but found flower stalks, so I have to prop it up with a skewer. Waiting for it to finish flowering, then I will chop it.

Frank that is a very nice superbum-great color.

Wind blew this s. treleasei off the deck a few weeks ago. Retrieved it from in the climbing hydrangea but didn't find the top. The stem is budding so will give it some time although the thing I like best about this sedum is the single tall stem.

I would have totally chopped that one! :) I am getting my courage up to try a few. Being brave...

I'm LOVING this! Makes me feel like mine are quite short and stubby, actually. :) I just bought an S. treleasei - it's tiny, and I never imagined they would grow so tall! I wanna go give it a little pep talk!
