Could the bed raise up like beds in RVs for extra storage?

Gun safe? Jewelry compartment? I agree that it looks like there's a skinny pull out shelf for a laptop or books, water, etc.

The skinny shelf is so common in cabinetry I'd think it was something different. The crown moulding looks detached. Maybe the unit swings out though the electrical would need special handling. I'm sure that could be addressed.

I think the whole cabinet swivels to reveal hidden storage. Clothes closet, perhaps?

There's a big gap at the top where the trim is. Maybe there's something up there.

The frame around the wall sconce, flowers, etc. There is no mirror.

I agree that it's something with the top of the cabinetry. I wouldn't think the whole system swings out because that large rug would be in its way

I think the whole unit swings out like a door, there's probably a 'closet' of some sort behind it, maybe drawers or shelves? A place to keep seldom used things, it looks like it would be somewhat of a hassle to open it because of the rug, it's own weight, etc. Unless the mounted lighting swings out farther than it looks like it does, it would be useless for reading in bed. This is, I think, one of those ideas that sounds a whole lot better than it looks or works. Just my humble opinion.

Also, the interior of the top part of the cabinet is not very deep, could be there is a jewelry hanger behind it.

Jasdip's got it. The whole case swings open to reveal storage behind.

Not really a fan as it makes the lamp in a poor position for use from the bed. I'm not sure how easy it is to swing open, and it leads to the question, why?

As I looked at the other photos, I noticed that this is duplicated on the other side of the bed. Storage probably goes the entire width of the bed, cutting back on precious space in closets for often-used items.

I also noticed that there is a nice wing-back chair in the room with a couple of books on the side table. However, there is no light there. Wrong!

It's certainly different. I guess there's no way to rearrange the furniture once you commit to that!

I love the idea, IMO, it would be a great way to hide valuables.

I don't understand how the lamp placement would be a problem? It has a folding arm that looks like you could pull it much closer the the bed.

Jim's point is you can't read in the chair when it is dark because there is no light.

Because of the trim on the bottom of the bedside thing, you have to take a little step up to walk into the closet. I wonder how many times the residents have stubbed their toes on that thing...

There is an overhead light above the wing chair to use.

It looks to me that, because of the side of the case, the light would have to swing out and around, at which point it would be in front of the pillows, not next to or behind your head where you'd want it to, say, read in bed.

The light that Kathleen is referring to is, in fact, in the foreground. One can tell by the size and that it is not 'above' the chair (that would not be good if one wanted to move the chair, a light above nothing just doesn't work).

From one point of view, I guess it is clever as the ceiling cuts really low, so by building the wall out, the ceiling is a more comfortable height for the bed, but you can still make use of the storage, even though it's a low crouch.
