mealies on Hoya?
Comments (3)one or two isn't so bad, but check VERY VERY VERY thoroughly and you may want to use something a bit stronger if you see more, like insecticidal soap. Only severe infestations require the heavy duty chemicals, and you want to make sure it doesn't get to that point. I have never had a problem with root mealies and don't know much about them, but if you found them on the part of the plant above the soil then they are probably regular mealies....See Moregse?
Comments (12)Hi all, we are talking about Grapefruit Seed Extract. It can be used to treat humans, animals, plants and your household. It is not like grapefruit itself -- it's safe to use when taking antibiotics and other medications, unlike grapefruit. I don't use chemicals in my home because they make me very ill, so 35 drops of GSE go into an Amway spray bottle, then it's filled with bottled water. It can be used in place of anti-grease stove-top cleaner, refrigerator cleaner, microwave cleaner, bleach (let it SIT on the surface for 90 minutes for it to disinfect), glass cleaner, etc. SHAKE IT carefully each time you use it, and while using it as the GSE settles to the bottom. You can brush your teeth with it, wash your face with it, put a drop or two in your drinking water, and put a few drops into a veggie cap for intestinal health. It can help dissolve warts, kills skin fungus, helps control dandruff. I used it when I was inundated with black mold -- in my ears, up the nostrils (a VERY dilute form), and drinking increasing drops from one to 10 over a period of 3 weeks. You have to gradually increase or it will kill everything in the gut all at once, and the die-off will make you wish you were dead. Don't get it in eyes or directly on mucus membranes in pure form. It is very concentrated. The best stuff is at liquid gold.com - concentrated, unlike the health food store kind. You know the vegetable spray that was introduced a few years ago? That is mostly water and GSE. If you order it from Liquid Gold.com you will receive sheets describing 171 uses and how to formulate it for each use. I swear by it and so do many of my friends. :) pb...See MoreHow to Use Vinegar, Borax, etc. to do the laundry
Comments (43)Ree, Well, I ran an empty load with hot water and a little bleach last night, then I left the door open all night. I also took the FS dispenser out and washed it really good and let it soak in water in the sink all night. (My washer is a top loader with a FS dispenser that sits on top of the agitator). The washer seemed to smell clean. The FS dispenser smelled better but still had the vinegar smell. So I think that is my culprit. My dispenser holds about 3/4 cup of liquid. I usually put in the suggested amount of FS, then fill the rest with water. When I put in the vinegar, I used 1/2 cup and the rest with water. Next time I think I will use less vinegar, more water and see how that goes. I don't want to give up on this vinegar thing. Maybe after I order the Charlie's Soap, that also might make a difference. My washer and dryer are almost 8 1/2 years old now and still in good condition, so until they go kaput, they will do till then. By the way, how do you like the frontloader? And what kind do you have?...See MoreResults using homemade powdered laundry soap
Comments (25)I have recently been using Fels Naptha as a pretreater for stains. Wet the stained area and rub the stain with a bar of Fels. Rub the resulting soapy stuff in well. Somtimes I use an old toothbrush to get it into the fabric well. Let it sit for 10 minutes before laundering. I find the "new" Fels Naptha has quite a strong perfume, so I keep the bar in a plastic container. As to it not being the same as grandmom's Fels, Stoddard Solvent is also called white spirit in other parts of the world. It is a type of naptha, which is a petroleum distillate. It's the naptha in Fels Naptha that makes it the most effective soap for removing greasy oily soils. Perhaps Dial is being more specific in naming the particular type of naptha being used in the formula. They have also highly scented the product. It no longer is "the soap with the clean naptha odor" touted in the old ads. I have used Zout for years, and loved the results. I recently ran out of my original formula Zout. It was very lightly scented. The Zout I replaced it with is still effective, but I object to the way it perfumes my clothes, hence the switch to Fels....See Moresail_away
