Antiquing shiny brass faucet: lacquer WON'T come off - help!

So I bought a shiny, 80s-esque faucet to go on my wall-mount antique sink...the entire internet is full of advice on how to de-lacquer the stuff and darken/age it. I thought - no problem. I practiced on a brass bin pull. Perfect. However, this particular coating on the faucet that Kingston Brass uses is completely resistant to all of the things I can find telling me how to get it off. I mean it's not putting a dent in this shine. Does anyone have any tricks or products they know of? I can't use the boiling and baking methods b/c it's a faucet and there are parts within it that I don't want to risk melting/ruining. I need something I can rub on. I called Kingston Brass too - they have zero idea what the stuff is made of and can't help me figure out how to get it off b/c of course that's what they DON'T want. Grrrrr. Help please!
