Looks like silicone from installer hands. Try something like this please.

I have the exact same thing going on! contractor and counter people coming tomorrow. I also can't feel any difference but there are glaring spots that where the finish looks "different". also white lines where they marked center of sink for faucet placement and lines for placement of sink itself. some of those I didn't notice until under cabinet lighting went in today. Now, quite apparent. I feel your pain.

Ellen, yes we seem to be having the same issue! I called the installers, who rudely told me, "Its quartz. Its man made, its not supposed to be shiny like granite." I understand there are different finishes, however the "finish" on mine is all different, shiny in one part and smudges in the other, with some marks that look like faint scratches. I cant imagine that is supposed to look like that, as I have seen plenty of quartz that have a uniform sheen to them. I am very disappointed that my installer was so dismissive. I called Daltile who again is telling me to use a magic eraser "because they use it all the time". I said fine, but if it doesnt work I am having them come out to look at it. I would love to know what your contractor and counter people say.

HU- I met with contractor today and he will meet with quartz guy later. But GC says they will most likely wipe it down with acetone to get off the blotches and templating marks. he also gave me the spiel about man-made product and told me I may have to lower my perfection need on this one. he said it may be an artifact of the product. I can buy the artifact thing when talking about sine things, bit not the finish on a man-made product. I told him the sheen should be consistent. I said that I hope it's simply gonna wipe off and not to get ahead of ourselves, bit did also mention that if it doesn't work, then I will probablyy insist on having caesarstone rep look at it. I will keep you posted on what the counter company says.

one more question.. is a magic eraser an actual eraser? I have one of those white erasers. is that the same thing? or is magic eraser a specific kind? I did use my white eraser on some templating marks by the faucet hole, a day after install. but yesterday I found more templating marks and it didn't work. GC said they use a white marker of some sort.

oh gosh I just googled magic eraser. now I know what it is. lol not a real eraser!

Joseph Corlett, does acetone work on silicone smudges? I think I'd seen a comment by you on a different thread that it works on silicone smudges and templating marks. I'm hoping so.

Ellen, yes magic eraser as in the cleaning sponge not actual eraser, lol! I tried it yesterday, even though I didnt want to because of all the discussions I see about how it is abrasive and causes dullness..but I have dull spots all over my counters anyways that is part of the problem. (I'm also wondering if daltile telling me they use magic erasers all the time on quartz might have been part of why I have this problem to begin with..but maybe not). Anyways, I tried it and it didnt change anything, but I also didnt use alot of pressure. I am going to call daltile again today and let them know. I'm also wondering if acetone will help, but I would rather the daltile rep come out and look, and him apply if necessary.

Here is another photo in different lighting. These marks won’t come off and it is very frustrating to have countertops that look constantly smudged.

shoot I was so hoping the magic eraser would work for you. yeah maybe the acetone. seems like that is what many installers use to clean up. in my case, they left their template marks so I'm thinking they didn't wipe with anything. do you have appt with daltile coming up?

On fresh silicone, yes. On thin cured smudges I'd give it a shot.

HU and J Corlett -- counter guys here and did a wipe down with lacquer thinner. They also swiped lightly with a razor blade as they wiped. IT WORKED! Looks great. I'm so relieved.

Ellen, that is wonderful! I'm so glad. Daltile boss coming tomorrow to look, I will definitely mention that worked for you and maybe he can try that for me as well.

HU, the worst spots they had to rub a few times. I just kept checking and telling them "again". because I could see it getting better. I think probably many people have these but depending on lighting, they just don't see them. when I have overhead lights on, you couldn't see. good luck and keep us posted.

HU - have you had any resolution yet? have been wondering about you and whether or not Daltile had seen the counters.

Hi Ellen! Sorry for the delay in responding. The daltile rep came out and wiped it down with acetone which helped, but I foolishly thought it could be done a little more and did it myself, resulting in a pretty big dull spot next to my stove. Luckily, the placement of a cutting board right on top of the spot looks good so that is what I will be doing. The acetone definitely helped the smudges though! I should have just not gotten so overzealous and taken matters into my own hands further. You live and you learn! :)

With what did you apply the acetone, please? I'll bet you abraded it; I doubt the acetone dulled it.

Just a soft microfiber cloth, but I did go over that one spot quite a few times and put a lot of pressure on the area. Is it possible the cloth was abrasive?

I have smudges too. How are y’all counters now? I see this is from last year.

I’m glad I’m not the only one this is happening to.
I just had my countertops installed and there are smudge marks all over them.
The countertop guy came back and used a Magic’s eraser that helped somewhat, but there still smudges.
I’m so upset about this and don’t know what to do..
I don’t think we should have to use acetone every time we clean our counters… We should just be able to wipe them with a quartz cleaner and be done

@Diane Cuomo, I believe magic eraser is no no for countertops.

Magic erasers should never be used on any countertop, or appliance, or even on walls. It is abrasive and acts like sandpaper. It is definitely a no no.
