range or cooktop & single oven underneath?
Comments (31)I have been looking at this as well. Here is what I have learned: - If a gas oven is important to you, get an all-gas range - If you would rather have an electric oven, you can get either a dual-fuel range or a cooktop over an oven - benefits of a cooktop+oven: a)can have a 36" cooktop and a 30" oven b)looks neat (I personally do like this look better) - Disadvantages of a cooktop+oven: a)oven is electric (this is a minus if you like gas, there are a couple of gas wall ovens out there but they are very expensive) b)overall it may be more expensive considering carpentry, granite cutout etc. But this is something that you can confirm based on your selection c)if you go with the 36" cooktop and 30" oven, you are loosing 6" of cabinet space because there will be 3" on each side of the oven which are unusable Also, as someone already mentioned above, for a cooktop over an oven, it is important to review the specs of the appliances you have in mind to make sure they can support this kind of installation. Most salespeople recommended going with the same brand for both the cooktop and the oven (plus you can often "see and touch" them installed that way in a showroom) but it is possible to use different brands too, just requires more homework. I haven't decided on this issue myself yet. I do like the look but have always had a gas range so there is a "habit factor" too. I hope it helps...See MoreWall oven underneath Diva 36 inch induction cooktop?
Comments (2)MLS99 is right -- all brands have different specs. We have a Windcrest cooktop with Fisher & Paykel wall oven below. Love it!...See MoreOh no! My ovens won't fit!
Comments (18)Jayne-there are two reasons that the cooktop can't go on the back wall. First, there is a little bump out wall that can't be removed. If the cooktop were placed there, you would lose 10" from the side wall in a L run because that's how much the bump out sticks out on that side. Also, it's a 20" stone wall...even if you decided to put a hole in it for a vent, it would vent right into the patio seating area. Can't run the vent across the ceiling to the side, because the joists go the wrong way. You could put the cooktop where the hutch and refrigerator are but you still have the venting problem and it wouldn't be a very nice view from the dining room. That was the motivation behind the refrigerator (integrated) and hutch there...the view. I'm not exaggerating when I say this kitchen is problematic. Right now it has 4 doorways, 3 windows, a soil stack chase and two little bump out walls. We seriously thought it would be easier to just move than tackle this remodel! live wire: the window to the right of the cooktop could be made smaller to accomodate the wall ovens there. It's north facing and doesn't have a great view, so that could be an option. I wish I had my design software on this computer. I really don't want to put a cabinet on the wall next to the sink because that will make it even more difficult to feel like you're part of the kitchen action when seated at the inside corner of the breakfast bar. It's already pretty bad....See MoreCooktop with separate oven underneath?
Comments (10)We are doing exactly this and I'm sure there are lots of people who will show their pix. You can check the finished kitchens blog, too. (and look at issues of Better Homes & Gardens Kitchen magazine for examples) I can't show a pic because it isn't done yet, but we are getting a Caldera 30" gas cooktop with a Monogram 30" oven under it. We were originally going to get a range but they are all so clunky looking and this way we can get what we want without being limited to one manufacturer. It is also a sleeker look. Caldera makes a super cooktop (check the appliance forum) and the Monogram oven has 3 shelves that pull all the way out - a great feature when you're bending - LOL. I believe Electrolux has this feature, too. We're putting our wall oven underneath because we just don't have room for wall ovens and an island - our kitchen is too narrow....See Moregpraceman55
