Comments (10)I don't know about spraying on a Japanese Maple, at least not in my area(Eastern Kansas, Western Missouri). It might depend on what part of the country you are in and what potential pests are out there you might be spraying for. I can't think of any that target Japanese Maples off the top of my head, maybe someone else can. Of course my potential values were all based on my area and based on supposedly healthy nursery stock, not trees being moved from some other private property to another. I did mention that the lace leafed cultivars are far more expensive than the non-lace leafed cultivars. I'd also say that 90% of the red leafed(non-lace leafed) Japanese Maples sold in much of the Eastern 1/2 of the country are indeed 'Bloodgood' or one of it's seedlings, so it and it's seedlings(which of course makes them NOT true 'Bloodgood') by far are the most widespread red leafed cultivar you will find in much of the country. I mentioned Japanese Maple nuts/aficionados/enthusiasts know probably hundreds of cultivars and can tell the minute differences between them all and could probably give a more informed opinion of the true cultivar of the tree in question, like bboy did. Many of them look so similar to me that they just kind of all merge into the same thing....See MoreSycamore Maple Tree.........
Comments (8)aw crikey ... its Acer pseudoplatanus ... which translated.. would be a 'maple false plane/sycamore' if they are adverting them a sycamore maple.. you can see how confusion reins.. with common names ... as far as i am concerned.. it has nothing to do with sycamore... ok.. i will step off my soapbox ... i had.. keyword there... esk sunset for 10 years ... from about 18 inches.. to no more that 8 feet .. in full afternoon shade ... so the white in the leaves woudnt burn off in july/august ... it was rather fat and happy until that evil mother nature threw a z4 winter at us.. it died back to about 6 inches.. above the graft.. and right now.. i have 6 or eight sprigs coming up from down there.. a couple all green ... and the rest near white with the red backs ... i am leaving the green ones for now.. for fear that they are the only ones feeding the roots ... with the shade its planted in ... with trees... one should never be in too much of a hurry.. to prune off excess parts ... when the plant is this stressed ... i will make that determination next spring ... it was the pride and glory of my 5 acre arb .... i think you made a wise choice.. enjoy it ... it is apparently patented under this name: acer pseudoplatanus Tunpetti and if you use that term to google it.. you can get some get pix on the IMAGES side ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link...See MoreJapanese maple tree identification
Comments (4)Expensive grafted named cultivar coming from Arbor Day seems pretty unlikely. Especially if it was free. Tree looks like a typical wild-type seedling. So it is likely to produce a small (15'-35') vase-shaped tree that will take many years to reach full size....See MoreMaple Tree Identification
