Gaggenau vs Miele wall oven+warm drawer+combi oven
Comments (23)@Sarah, I bought the 36" fridge/freezer combo (bottom freezer), and a 24" wine cooler column. The fridge has been installed about 4 years ago, the wine cooler still standing in my garage - need to make room for it and have been procrastinating. Also my better half developing a bit of a wine habit has not helped to incentivize me to install a full wine rack - unfortunately. Had 0 problems so far. It just freaking works. @JJ Mekai, in my experience you don't get a better longevity from any other brand. Don't know about Miele, but I did have to replace my Miele dishwasher (installed in 2007) about a year ago. The Gaggenau cooktop and vent hood installed at the same time don't even blink. I may replace some parts because they get rubbed off for looks... but functionally they are rock solid. Sorry... the hood had a snafu once couple years back. Circuit board replacement, cost me $350 to fix. The ovens, and they are used daily, as the refrigerator, installed about 4 years ago, knock on wood, are rock solid and seem to just keep on ticking....See MoreWall Can't Come Down (All the Way) - Pls Help With Design Dilemmas!
Comments (10)Thank you all for taking the time to consider my dilemma. I really appreciate it. Artistsharonva, I know it's hard to imagine that anyone can cook in an aisle that narrow, but we do it in NYC all the time. Here's the floorplan of the room, with the old galley kitchen we're ripping out. It will go right back into this footprint, but we'll annex the back wall of what's now the dining area. The kitchen and dining are on a raised platform that I've indicated with the dotted blue line. I'm not worried about the dimensions of the aisle. I've been cooking in this kitchen for four years now. The new design will at least be better than that: Herbflavor, the sink can't be moved. Given this, I don't think moving the pantries to that wall will help. I'd rather keep them flanking the fridge. Dan1888, the board won't even consider it, and I can't blame them. Since the gas explosion last year, any NYC building that touches a gas line these days has to be stress tested - and almost all prewar buildings will fail. I know a Brooklyn co-op that had to replace a hot water heater last March, their building failed the stress test, and everyone was without hot water until September while they tango'd with the conflicting demands of various inspectors. Mamagoose, I like the idea of the sink there and turning this galley into a U, however the water and waste pipes can't be relocated there. And there's an exposed steam pipe and a gas pipe that can't be touched where the dishwasher would be. I think I'm stuck with this: Instead of a wall of tile, I'm considering a curved marble backsplash right behind the sink. I'm not a fan of open shelves, but I have enough storage given all the wall cabinets on the opposite side. What I'm having trouble visualizing is the countertop material. Because of the proximity, do the two sides have to have the same material? If I want marble on the cooktop counter and backsplash, can I have white quartz on the sink counter? Thoughts, anyone?...See MoreCan’t cook pizza properly in Frigidaire Wall oven
Comments (29)"Is the dough different than Chicago style" Since Chicago style was mentioned, as was oven temps for pizza, I couldn't help but mention that Chicago has a couple pizza restaurants with brick ovens fueled by old-fashioned coal. The taste is unduplicatable. Temps inside the coal ovens are 800-1500 degrees depending on where the pizza is placed. Placing the pizza in the oven and moving it around in there while cooking depending on what the toppings are is a whole art. Given that example, I'd say to the OP she needs to increase her oven temps to at least 450 as has been suggested in this thread....See MoreDrawer microwave under wall oven??
Comments (11)It would seem to me that the biggest problem with mounting the drawer microwave oven so low would be viewing the control panel. The control panel of that Wolf MD30PE/S is perpendicular to the floor making it hard to read even when the oven is mounted just below the countertop (the usual place). If you don't yet have the oven or can return it, consider the Sharp SMD3070ASY whose control panel flips down so it can be read from above. Remember that Sharp manufactures all drawer microwaves, these ovens are the same internally, and the Sharp SMD3070ASY is even $1000 cheaper (list) than the MD30PE/S. (It can also be mounted flush.)...See MoreDesign Loft Bracebridge
