GE 120V Wall Advantium Oven? Sharp Microwave drawer? Opinions?
Comments (3)We also have a 120V advantium (ours is OTR) and really like it. The newer ones seem even better than ours, but ours works just fine. We use it more for microwaving and regular baking (rather than speedcooking) but we do use the speedcooking capability from time to time. From what I understand, the new ones have a rack that can go in which I really like the idea of - my one caveat to ours is that it has only the turntable, on which you need to fit your baking dishes - not always the easiest size to fit. We did have problems with the bulb about a year into owning it, but we didn't bother replacing it at that time. It had a big circuit board problem though about 2 months ago which was pretty expensive to fix - that said, from what I understand our experience was atypical (and may have been a power surge issue). In addition, there is an online site (I think it was instuctables.com) that explains how to replace the bulb yourself. Bottom line? We're doing an addition to our new house and completely redoing the kitchen, and I'm pretty positive there will be a 120V Advantium (possibly the Monogram this time) in that kitchen (along with a 36" gas range and a Gagg combi-steam). We find its flexibility extremely useful....See Moreunder cabinet microwave or microwave drawer?
Comments (5)Drawer. I've been using mine for a few months. I'm 5'8"ish and don't find the height to be a problem. It's really not a bend to get in it, maybe a small lean when picking up something heavy and hot. I'm easily annoyed, but this movement doesn't bother me at all. I like being able to look straight down on my food or bev rather than peering up and in on my toes. I have the Sharp drawer that opens/closes with push buttons or with a gentle tug/push to get the door started. I haven't spilled anything in it with either method. The closing is fairly gentle so as not to cause spillage. Initially, I resisted the idea of the drawer and couldn't figure out the appeal. Now that I'm using it, I really like it. I bought mine as a refurb from a reputable ebay seller. Saved hundreds!...See MoreSingle Oven/Advantium or single oven with microwave drawer
Comments (5)I love this subject. As much as I love the look and performance concept of two ovens, I can't commit the space or resources. Here is what we are doing: 1 wall oven (probably monogram) 1 krups fbc-4 toaster oven (there are many reviews on amazon) 1 microwave, plain for now, but may upgrade to panasonic genius prestige convection microwave based on needs. 1 solar oven (not sure what model yet) Why am I doing this? Like many people, once in a while I could really use two ovens, but it's not a frequent need. My toaster, which I love, has a convection oven feature that works well. It does great brownies, pies, and small cakes/side dishes. It fits my largest diameter (10.5 inch o.d.) pie dish easily. The rectangular inner dimensions are 12" w x 11" d, with nearly an inch bumpout in depth in the back, but I would leave that open for air flow. Anyway, what I learned this thanksgiving (I never paid attention before because I wasn't designing a kitchen) is that the turkey and the pies bake at vastly different temperatures, so I did need another oven for the holiday. But, the toaster oven fit the bill. I figured, if I could make it through thanksgiving on this setup, I could get through just about anything that might come my way. So, I am going with this combo. As the years go by and the number of bakers in my kitchen grow, I can upgrade my microwave to a convection unit if necessary too, but since I'm doing freestanding, I won't have to change my cabinets. I just wanted to mention the toaster oven, because when you're using it as an additional oven, you still get the use of your microwave. So, that's 4 baking options, 5 if you count our bread machine, all without a double wall oven. Not a solution for everyone but I thought it might be worth mentioning. If you click around in the links, some of the information about the use of solar ovens in refugee camps is heartening, and gives me hope for the future of the world. It's worth it to me, both in terms of electricity saved, and in setting an example for my kids, to master the use of the solar oven. Plus it doesn't take up any space in my kitchen or make it hotter in the summer! Here is a link that might be useful: More and more solar oven options out there...See Moremicrowave drawer under wall oven- pics?
Comments (5)I am putting a mw drawer under a single wall oven. The mw will be installed in a cabinet at the same height it would be under counter. The 24" wall oven will be just above, so not too high. It's not a perfect scenario, but the alternative was to put it in the island, forcing me to lose my prep sink. Also, the oven is in addition to a 48" range, so will not be used daily. Here is a photo I found of this setup:...See More- last year
