Need Advice - Buying Stackable FLs for My Mom

last modified: 7 years ago

My mother's old stackable W/D is on its last gasp, and I think the repair guy can't find parts. So I want to buy her a new set. We have a caregiver come in daily and help her, so she doesn't do the laundry herself. When things break, she finds it more stressful than a younger person would, as elderly people do. Because the W/D fits in a certain spot, the set must be 27" wide, which I have learned is a common width, so no problem there.

Must haves:

  • FL stackable, 27" width
  • built-in heater
  • easy to get parts
  • she doesn't need steam, though they all seem to come with steam it seems
  • electric

I at first looked at Electrolux 517s, but the dryers have steam, and that was something we don't need.

Miele, Asko, Bosch, Speed Queen - too expensive.

I've ruled out LG and Samsung because of all the reports of how hard it is to get parts, and the poor customer service, even though people like the machines themselves.

I am considering GE and Whirlpool. I don't like the Tier IIIs with so little water, but am having trouble discerning which ones might be Tier I or II. But what I want most are the things I listed above. Thanks so much for your kind advice!
