Is this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? (pics!)
Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreMy DIY headboard -- bedroom makeover in progress (pics)
Comments (47)marti8 and sheetalN, we do love waking up in there. I need a 9x12 rug to ground the space, but it's so much more serene with the lighter color and softer headboard. Makes such a difference! Before the room was a bit too masculine for me. BlackChamois, here's the link for the tutorial. As far as tutorials go, it was just ok. She left out the hardest part which was getting the fabric around the curves. We figured it out eventually, but it took some tries to get the fabric straight so it wouldn't bunch. nosoccermom, the paint color is BM Nimbus. I think it's either at 75% or 80% -- i'll have to check the can. I love the color - it's a true gray with no undertones. I've repainted both of my bathrooms with it. Here it is at 100% in my daughter's bathroom (sorry for the big pic): Here is a link that might be useful: Tutorial...See MoreLooking for help with master bedroom makeover!
Comments (18)Thank you mimipadv we like him too. :-) Painting the trim white us a definite, we've been making our way around the house as we've done over other rooms. The windows are all new so that's why they're done already. The only other thing I've done in this room so far is take down an upper wall border, freshen up the ceiling, and those blue bathroom walls used to have hideous 80s green and burgundy plaid wallpaper! And no, that over toilet cheapie isnt staying, just came with the house. As for the openness, we're used to it by now and don't mind it so much. We have etiquette rules as to the toilet usage. ;-) The tub only gets used by the kids and it's nice to plop them in then fold laundry or lounge on the bed to give them time to play. However that being said, we have talked about putting up French doors which would be my preference as I don't want the room to be suddenly small and cavelike without those two big windows. And we could still open them up for the kids. I thought maybe sliding ones so they wouldn't take up floor space....See MoreHelp with Bedroom Makeover Please
Comments (37)That's okay about the bed! I think it's great to look at higher priced items anyway to get inspiration then find something less pricey in that same style :) I only suggested the stikwood as a way to draw in some interest and texture and visual on that tall wall but it's totally not the only option in doing so. You could possibly do a large print on the wall. That bedding color is really nice and a great accent color! one thing to remember you don't have to rush to but a room together. And have it look like you just went to a catalog and bought everything. Surround yourself with what you really love. And you will be much more pleased with the outcome....See Moremonicakm_gw
