House WITHOUT a Bath Tub???
Comments (17)You know, I think there are actually more people who want just nice spacious walk-in showers but put in a tub when remodeling because they've run up against the real-estate wisdom that the house won't sell one than there are actually tub users. :-) Just my guess because it seems that whenever I pop over to the bathroom forum there is a question on page one from someone who says just what you are - we don't take baths, we'd like to retire the tub for a nicer shower, why can't I do it? - and a chorus of responses of "for resale, for resale!". I'm one of those former kinds AND I put replaced our tub with a new one, but I badly wanted to remove the tub of our main bathroom for a nice - er - make that decent - -sized walk-in shower. Eventually, didn't do it. I put in a tub but I just couldn't get enthused over what tub to get, what tub to get, what tub to get the way I did over the tile, the faucets, the countertop, and yes, even the WC. There is a tub there - it is still uninteresting - I think it is the Kohler Tea-for-two or the Kathryn or something. Whatever. This is my first house, resale was a consideration, and if when we sell the house the next set of buyers aren't bathtub people, I will hurt someone. So, basically, I don't know what to tell you. I badly wanted to pop the hatch on the tub and not put one in again. But I did. Is it the smart thing to do? At the moment, it continues to be an annoyance. At resale time, who-knows coz that hasn't happened yet. So, how do you factor in the cost of having to put in something you don't want for some future anticipated benefit at some indeterminate date for an unknown buyer who we expect will fit a certain mold in terms of their bathroom preferences??? Dunno! Take from this what you will....See MoreSealing membrane to tub flange?
Comments (3)The vapor barrier should overlap the flange, but I've never heard of sealing one to the other. There's just not that much moisture that gets through that would mandate that. If there were, then instead of a vapor barrier, a waterproofing membrane would be the code, instead. Matter of fact, one of the top people in the industry-- a guy by the name of Michael Byrne, advocates not even USING a vapor barrier. Below, is a thread from one of the forums where I go to learn about the newest advances in the industry. I don't agree with everything Mike says (and this is one of those times), but this guy is definitely a walking talking encyclopedia of everything tile: Here is a link that might be useful: Read the last line of reply #2...See MoreKohler Greek tub as tub/shower combo
Comments (18)Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreWhat are your thoughts on Black bath tubs
Comments (10)I am not a fan at all. I am not trying to offend you, but they freak me out. I don't like the idea of water in something that I cannot see the bottom in. I also don't like that it isn't obvious if there is a spider in there. I'm personally very weird about colored bowls. You can clean them all day, but they don't scream bleachy clean like white does. I saw a beautiful home and the master bathroom had a black tub. It is a turn off and I would never buy a house with one in it....See Moreartemis_ma
