Small galley kitchen reveal--lots of pictures
Comments (56)Thanks again everyone! I enjoy cooking every night and spend a lot of time in there in general! Brooklyngalley--thank you! I just love the galley, and it flows so well! Bpathome--the placement was functional. At first I was going to place them all the same. Then I realized that the under sink would be different and my husband thought he would always pull the wrong way. I like them high for the drawers too. Very convenient. Deedles, the lights are Vaxcel Lighting SP53718 Spotlight Contemporary. I love them! They provide so much light. I loved that they were curved and had the square crystal glass. We do have task lighting too to avoid shadows. I love that we can direct the light. I have light directed into the pantry, the microwave, the bar area, and three directed at the stove/sink area. I am posting a link below. We bought the lights from Furgeson. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchen ceiling lights...See MoreFull Kitchen Reveal...lots of pictures!
Comments (62)I like your cabinets. how are they for showing dirt? We had pure white cabinets in our last house and they had to be cleaned every day or else look dirty. I really like white cabinets but with 3 kids, I can't clean cabinets every day and the dirt bothered me so I was wondering if glazed white cabinets showed less dirt??...See MoreCherry and White Granite Kitchen Reveal - Lots of Photos!
Comments (42)@beth09, there was a recent discussion about built-in cutting boards here and I was surprised that there were people who didn't like them. I was also surprised about how many of them had major concerns about sanitation with them. Mine haven't made me sick yet. Every older kitchen I've had, including my current one, has had those type of cutting boards. I love them. I have three in my current kitchen and they are one reason why I'm reusing my cabinet boxes as I'm not finding these type of cutting boards in newer cabinet lines unless you go custom, definitely not in my budget. I hope you have better luck finding them in the cabinet line you choose....See MoreFinished kitchen reveal, lots of pics...
Comments (58)Russ, the kitchen proper is 21'10" x 13'10", the area just past the bar sink where kitchen table sits is 13'4". The island is 87.5" x 66" -- which I just realized, because you made me look at the plan, they shorted me a few inches! The plan calls for 67 7/8". (Not that I care one bit, I never want to see the countertop people again.) The overhang is 15" at the top and 16.5" on the side and completely comfortable. Tibb, the counter is walnut, not stained, we chose walnut for its natural darker color. Since we've had them I've just been putting mineral oil on them, but they constantly feel and look dry to me. With crumbs from toaster and coffee and wine and bar stuff, they are constantly being wiped. So just this weekend I sanded them down to remove any trace of mineral oil. I have applied one coat of tung oil, have to wait 24 hours between coats and then I want to apply two more coats. We shall see. I originally went with mineral oil because I thought I'd cut on them, but they are too beautiful to cut on! So I'd rather have a bit more protection on them, and hopefully easier maintenance, I was bad keeping up with the mineral oil....See Moretigrangrig
