Where are you located? I don't recognize it from around my area (central Indiana). I was going to say some sort of cuckoo...but that big white area throws me off. How big was it?

I am in the county of Kent (the garden of England) our little friend would be the size of a chaffinch but despite bird book/online research I am unable to identify this bird. Perhaps it's not a Warbler at all but that was my first response

Well, this is a mystery! I don't know anything about the birds in England, but after looking online for quite awhile, I couldn't find anything that looked like the one in your picture. The closest I could find with that white band across it's lower back, was a young house martin. Sometimes young birds look different from what they grow into.

Could you send the picture to some place that knows all about birds? Sorry I couldn't help you. And sorry this beautiful bird died. I had a beautiful small warbler hit my window and die. :( Please report back here if you ever find out what your bird was. Good luck!

YAY! I'm so glad atlamol figured it out. Sorry I missed it. I felt the same way about the bird that hit my window recently. So beautiful and probably just passing through on migration. I'm hoping that spirits get recycled and both our birds will get another chance.

I'm in New Jersey, USA. I have seen northern wheatear in the wild a few times, but not in my home state. Though one does show up here every ten years or so and all the birders rush to see it.
