Need Some Carb Help
Comments (7)Ha ha rustyj. Who are you to be calling a Caprice "ancient"? Heck, the oldest Caprice is younger than you (or me). Harrr! While the machine in question (and even that specific carb) are "off topic" for this forum, we do discuss the generalities of carburetion here. Having said that I will offer this. For a carb of that circa , and having sat unused for "quite some time", it should have been taken apart and "dunked" in a carb bucket cleaner followed by probing and blowing out of all jets and passages, before trying to "see" if it would run. Anyhow, chevyman10, you have not made the situation any worse, it will still reqire a complete cleanout and rebuild. Carbs of that size and genre have "accelerator pumps" that operate to "shoot" a pulse of gas into the carb throat every time the accelerator pedal is pushed. Without the accelerator pump working, it is hard to keep the engine running while trying to increase the RPM because when the throttle plates open quickly, the mixture gets leaned out faster than the main jet system can react. The accelerator pump overcomes this by squirting some fuel into the throat as soon as the pedal is pushed. This small burst of additional fuel is only a "pulse" as the accelerator pump is a diaphragm type and only gives one pulse per cycle of the accelerator linkage. But that is just one possiblilty of what problems you have on this old carb. Take the carb to someone that still knows "old timey carbs" and let them look into it (if you ain't comfy with the idea). Some of that grit and stuff in the bowl has been carried into the jets and other places. Also, if you are trying to run the engine using the mechanical, diaphragm type fuel OEM pump.....that pump might just barely be moving any fuel. Realistically, chevyman10, you should try to find websites that cater to "old Chevy" owners (or "Old" chevy owners) to get the best results. Good luck sir....See MoreI need a good book!
Comments (72)L2Read - funny I read this thread today. It was on our local news that the guy who played James Bond (can't remember his name and I'm awful about movies/stars) is the lead in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (american version). The lead role (Lizbeth)- who plays that role - will make or break the movie, IMHO. I'm not sure who I could see playing that role. I enjoy reading, but don't have/make alot of time for it. This time of year there are so many outdoor activities. I do so enjoy taking a book when we are out on the boat and in spring/fall when we camp, I always have something on hand to read then. Too many activities and not enough hours in the day most of the time! In the last year, I have made time to read all 3 of the Dragon series. I will agree the first one, the sexual brutality kept me from ordering the second book for a while. It stuck with me and I wasn't sure I wanted to continue the series. Thankfully, books 2 and 3 had much less sexual violence. I don't know that I could watch a movie with that scene. The local newscaster (female) was talking about the swedish version after announcing who would play the male lead in the US version and she also said the swedish version was great and very true to the book. I hate subtitles, etc. so I won't be watching that one, but maybe the american version. I did just recently read Janet Evonovich's latest. I love her books - very light fiction, they always make me LOL. It will probably be fall before I read anything else, but I'm making a list of some of the suggestions here! tina...See MoreI need a good book............
Comments (14)yoyo, I don't think I can recommend anything to you but I will agree about the 'Essex Serpent' which was much over-hyped here a couple of years ago and was up for various 'awards'. I felt the story had way too many 'strands' none of them either very believable or interesting and lacked the essential 'Victorian' feel . . . plus had I been from Essex I would not have been happy that the author felt people from that county were then all half-wits....See MoreNeed some plant help-nutrition issues, possibly
Comments (6)The pepper plant is far too yellow but it is primarily the old growth that is yellow - that indicates excessive watering. While the new growth, somewhat better color but fading, has curled edged leaves - also indicative of a watering issue. So best guess on it is over-watering and in need of some nutrients. Peppers prefer to dry out some between waterings and do not require nearly as much water as tomato plants under normal conditions. The "tiny tomato plant" - can't really see it well enough in the photo except to note again that it is pale - especially compared to the one in a different location. So again I suspect lack of nutrients. As Dan said many factors can contribute but by far the 2 most common are water issues and nutrient issues. Address those two factors - cut back on water and feed them - and see if both don't improve. I also suspect nutrient issues because you mention that herbs are doing well. Herbs can thrive in nutrient poor soil, they prefer it in fact over high nutrient soil. So I'd sure give some thought to feeding your tomato and pepper plants. Dave...See MoreVedaBeeps SoCal 9b/10a
