Hair removal

So every now & again I do some manscaping. Shaving my chest & back is difficult & requires assistance. Nair gave a smooth feel but it burned a lot & smelled terrible. The epilady is out for me, looks painful. A friend got an IPL (intense pulse light) for home use. Has anyone experienced these? There's a million online reviews "ya or na" about it.

What is your preferred method?

You posted your question 16 hours ago and no one has responded. I can't help you with hair removal suggestions. I always wonder why a man wants to shave his chest though. I know that's common these days, but I don't like the look. Why do you?

Well back hair is unattractive so that has to go. My chest hair doesn't grow right. You know when you see the men on tv without shirts and the have the perfect amount of chest hair? Well mine is also on my stomach & up to my shoulders. Looks like a furry t-shirt. I've always been made fun of because of it.

Thanks for the tip that it is the same sandpaper that is sold in hardware stores. Now I do not have to buy the "replacement pads". I had suspected that it was regular sandpaper but did not have a clue as to the type or brand. If only I had read this before I bought the Smooth Away I would have just bought the sandpaper instead! I am satisfied with the product for fine hair removal. It does not work well for leg/arm hair I found, now that I have gone ahead and tried it.

Poohbaer, I was going to recommend Magic Shave also. It gets very good reviews. One thing about using a depilatory is that you do not have to use it everyday. The product dissolves hair slightly beneath the surface of the skin so it takes a while before it begins to appear above the surface, and is visually apparent. Also the hair grows back feeling softer, since the end of the hair shaft are not cut off like with a razor leaving a "sharp" end. There are warning for the product though, and just like with any depilatory, there is a risk of burning the skin if you are not diligent about the timing. Keep in mind that this product is made by L'Oreal and marketed solely to Africa American men who naturally have skin that is more oily than their Caucasion counterparts and have a greater concentration of melanin in the skin offering greater protection. The product is stronger and more concentrated than the depilatories sold to women, and there is a greater chance of inflicting burns to the skin if you are very pale, with soft, thin , non-oily skin. You may want to experiment with hair on another part of your body in a small patch, to see if the product is right for you. Magic Shave is what a lot of guys use to achieve that hairless look on their heads. They don't run a straight razor over all the head bumps, risking nicks and cuts. The head is curved, The razor is not. Magic Shave is the perfect replacement for head shaving especially since the scalp has a lot of protective oils so there is less risk of burns from the product.

I've been using a Spring on my upper lip and chin every other day. It's easy and barely hurts and it's cheap. Here's a link to a video. Spring I leave one in my car just in case I notice something I missed when I look in the rear view in sunlight. I know I sound crazy, but I hate these new getting older hairs. For my eyebrows I go to the mall and get threaded. It's fast and always perfect. It's $8 plus a tip.

Okay, I got my Flawless (coupon at BB&B). I tried it on the area between my brows, it was fine. Now, before I try it on my face, I'm just nervous! I have blond peach fuzz on the jaw, less/shorter on the chin, almost none on the upper lip, and then some going up from the jawline at the edges of my face. Where do I stop? Do I do the whooooooole face? Eek! I freak out over details, and in this case I think details matter!

I don't have a preference since I am not a hairy man. But I think if I were and didn't want back hair I would opt for going and having it waxed. Seems like the back would not be too painful an area to control by that method. Don't know about the chest and tummy. Maybe just shaping via razor unless you want the completely hairless look.

I don't think men need to get into the Hollywood look anymore than women do. Better to look for a partner that accepts you as you as well as loving yourself the way you are. Good grooming,yes. Trim and groom the forest. Following fashion that wants everyone to change what nature gave them, no. Saw a thing somewhere where women are now giving their girl parts facials. Ridiculous.

I love a smooth man!

Pawprint, I think that I would have a hairy back waxed in a heart beat. Yes, a hairy back is icky.

As far as the other, I've been given the impression that the IPL gadgets don't work very well, but have never used one. Hopefully, you'll hear from others who have personal experience.

What about electric shavers? We have hair clippers that I use to trim Robert's hair in between trips to the barber and it cuts very, very close without the guides attached.
