IKEA entertainment unit in bedroom?
I got a price back from the cabinet guy to build a custom built in. For my dream unit(about 9' wide by 10' tall) was close to $3000. As there are other areas that need work, I'm going to have to find another solution.
I do not need clothing storage in the bedroom, the walk in closet has plenty of room, so this will be for my tv and components, a spot to store and charge iPad and laptop and shelving for books and decorative pottery and glassware.
I found this on ikea and it will fit nicely albeit a bit small. The total is 8' wide by 6'6" tall. I'm ok with the smaller ditch but wonder if 6'6" tall will look squatty. The room has ceilings just under 9' high. Maybe I can display some tallish stuff on top?
Here's a mockup to show it in the cabin.
I'm hoping in a few years I can go ahead with the custom, but hope this will suffice in the meantime.

I will use a floor standing multi light near the desk but would like somthing like this plug in light box for the top of the storage center. I remember this light from a Au. site. Comments (2)Rather than buy something freestanding, you can go to a cabinet place, or even a Lowe's or HD and talk to the kitchen folks. You may be able to get a real custom built in look for not a lot of money. A few boxes, some crown molding and you can get just what you want....See MoreWhich table? Comments (35)I love those pictures with the beautiful curtains. But looking closely at my room, I'm not sure I have room for sheers to the side of the windows. The space between the window trim and room corners is not very big. If I do do curtains, would I only do them over the window behind the love seat? Not around the two windows on the wall with the bed next to the night stands right? I am definitely going to move the art. Building for the CATS, that bedding is very pretty! The lamps are also very nice... but would I have to get an electrician? I'm not sure I want to get into that... I had an electrician come last year and move a plug 12 inches in my media room and it was very difficult, time consuming, and costly b/c of the way our attic is constructed. nosoccermom, I do like the glass table, some of those overstock ones look nice. They might pick up the color of the little birds in my other table. I really like the idea of the ceramic garden stool too and I'm looking for one that would pick up the sofa colors... ingrid, not too critical at all.
