I've had voles (field mice) chew on every potato tuber that grew under hay mulch except 1, in a potato patch of nearly 1,000 square feet! I no longer grow potatoes under mulch. They eat ripe tomatoes. Voles eat the ends off green beans. They burrow up, under pumpkins, squash, and my beautiful melons! Once inside, they eat the seeds and sometimes, nothing else. I've had seedlings chewed off at the soil that I have blamed on voles. And, sprouting corn seed has been dug up, sometimes repeatedly! The old-fashioned Victor traps, baited with a raisin dipped in peanut butter work better than most anything. Tuck it in where a bird won't get to it. I agree completely with the Crazybeaglelady ~ There isn't such thing as "one mouse." Nope, you have a colony. Your garden environment benefits them or you wouldn't have seen the one. Voles are a huge problem in orchards and with no-till agriculture. "A meadow vole can eat nearly its own weight daily," according to Rutgers University. Since they weigh up to 3 ounces, 6 voles in your garden will eat a pound of some kind of food, every day. Moving them won't do anyone any good. In the UK, they have been found to attack and eat frogs. A strange vole will probably be attacked by other voles. digitSteve

I'd take it back and tell them it smells bad. Get another brand perhaps?

This is a virus....a trojan horse....I can't remember the exact one but I just got through fighting it on two different laptops and finally just reloaded both of them. EXACT same symptoms. You can try bringing up Task Manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del and then....file...New Task (run) and then "msconfig" and try to turn everything off under the "Start-up" tab and then restart....(if you find something under Start-Up that has no name, i.e. blank, that's the virus) it helped for a bit and let me get the virus definitions up to date, but then the virus kept replicating itself and it started doing the same thing all over again. I downloaded the fix from Symantec and even ran that 3 times until it said the virus was completely gone....it lied...it came right back EXACTLY the same way it was before...;-( Reload! lol Good Luck...and you have my empathy. Most of our long ranch house is over a crawl space.....which is a real bummer to check very often. Recently, we discovered that the mice had dug outside from above ground, all the way under the foundation and back up into the crawl space. We have a radon barrior which is all white........which means you can see all the millions of little poops that they've left. Anyhow......DH dug all the way to the bottom of the foundation and put a fair amount of stones around there, then refilled it. We're learning to keep the perimeter of the house freer of plants and leaves, etc. I used to bury my watergarden plants about a foot down, next to the house and cover them with leaves........but never again. The mouse we found by the hood fan was a baby. I think DH's sealing lots of things in the crawl space made those mice still in there seek different places to get out. Hopefully that's the last one in the stove hood...........but never say never, right? I just wish they weren't so danged cute.
