Aging a brass chandelier
Comments (11)I've used the aging products often, they are very easy to work with. Results are like magic before your eyes. There is a clear base metal liquid you paint on first. Then you paint the aging patina wanted. This is not a faux paint, it actually contains a metal process. No stripping needed on many objects I've worked with. Even plastic will take on a metal look. Link below is for Modern Options which I use. Goes a long way and stores well for other projects. It has been around for at least 20 years. Here is a link that might be useful: Aging metal Modern Options...See MoreAge of this brass "hog scraper" candle holder?
Comments (7)I first thought that the vertical column was lathe spun, except other views show that it is quite thick walled and the top flange is very thick. This leads me to believe that the vertical column is a casting. Square headed screws for agricultural equipment were common on farmsteads of 100 or more years ago. Think lag screws for wood, carriage bolts, and horse drawn farm implements. The washer is probably low carbon steel. The handle is fastened with brass rivets. The color of the brass indicates that it is "low brass" (common brass AKA 60/40 brass: 60% copper + 40% zinc). The base may also be a casting, however, it could have been formed by lathe spinning. Its finish says casting to me. This piece was manufactured by low technology processes and could have been made in a one man shop. The highest tech equipment needed would have been a casting furnace, pouring ladle, mold making gear, and a supply of brass....See MoreDoes light quartz darken with age?
Comments (12)When we have issues we swap out our problems at our own expense rather than going to the quartz manufactures for the simple fact of getting the clients problem resolved ASAP. The longer they have to look at their issue the harder it is to smooth it over in the end. If need be we will make the claim for slab reimbursement after. How ever not all fabricators have enough inventory or cash flow to do this. That’s why when you select your fabricator stay away from the low ball pricing because when they do mess up your story ends up here on Houzz. Look for an automated fabrication process with their own slab inventory, photo layouts, cnc saws and cnc edging. A company that invests in this kind of set up is in it for the long haul and will settle dilemmas quickly. As for quartz quality not all quartz is the same. I personally worked with a very long list of products. What makes the difference is the finish on the surface. Hold the a sample on an angle towards a light and look at the reflexion. If you see a high mirror finish gloss your ok if you see a sandy grain finish it will be stubborn to keep clean....See MoreSeduced by natural brass? Or is this pull a good idea?
Comments (8)I think any of your choices would look great. When deciding, consider everything else in the space and what look you want to achieve. The brass is more formal and will warm up the space, but unlacquered is a living finish, and you will see spots and discolorations. The hammered pull looks more industrial. The second pull (looks like nickel?) is a transitional look, and the last one is a bit country/rustic. Which look is most pleasing to you?...See MoreBumblebeez SC Zone 7
