Which rustoleum metallic paint to get aged brass look?
Comments (6)Very often, one paint won't do, but you need a top coat to give it that aged appearance. Not where you're going, but for the columns I faux finished, I wanted an antique gold look. I tried gold spray paint first and it was a failure. So then I used an imitation gold leaf process which looked a lot better, but they were still to bright, so then I took black acrylic paint and did a wash over the gold leaf to dull it down and was finally happy with the result. I was able to get away with a gold metallic undercoat and a black acrylic top coat which I rubbed on for the antique brass look on the PR mirror to match the plumbing....See MoreAge of this tall (8.25") brass candlestick?
Comments (0)I seem to be running into a few of these in antique malls lately and the age of this one is a subject of debate. Some say the remains of a lacquer on the brass indicate more recent age, while the lack of grinding/spinning marks indicate an antique. Any ideas on age or how to determine it? Height is 8.25 and the base is 6" across....See MoreAge and origin of this brass pitcher?
Comments (0)Age and place of origin? Pakistan, perhaps? Seems to be a hand-worked brass coffee/tea pot ... maybe. At first I thought that the open spout meant that it was intended to pour oil or some other kind of fuel, but the interior is tin coated. And why would you tin coat a fuel can/pitcher? Close-ups are included of makers mark (or some kind of mark!) and rivets attaching the handle to the base....See MoreMatching aged brass bath with shower handles. Regrets, I have a few
Comments (4)Isn't it annoying how one 'simple' decision can cause headaches down the road in something simple... Is there an option to contrast the shower door handle- white, black, clear acrylic. CRLawrence has an overwhelming number of options, surely something could look intentional. I'm surprised they haven't introduced that color yet since we seem to be back in the brass age....See Morelindac
