I have four o'clocks too and love them. After a while, with successive reseedings ours all turned white, but they make a mass of foliage and flowers and look good and full of bloom when not much else is happening in the garden, and without water. I appreciate the dangers Anita cites, but I don't see them getting out of hand in our environment, where there's enough water for other plants to grow, and where mowing does the rest. We've had Jalapa mirabilis (four o'clocks) for years, and they've stayed where we wanted them and not strayed. On another subject, I like your freewheeling garden, Jackie. Ours is another that gets only a reasonable minimum of control, though it isn't as lush as yours--yet. And we have weed problems, which are at their worst this time of year. You did all the right things, and the important thing is whether the roots and canes survived, not necessarily if the new growth survived. The roses can handle losing or drying out of the new growth because it's tender, and it's possible to get past the mold if it hasn't damaged the canes themselves. Do pull off any moldy foliage and watch the canes for signs of canker or cane blight, which would be large black patches that start circling or extending down the cane. You can still cut below the canker and the rose can survive, but with the mold and moisture issues you want to pay attention to them for a while. Bottom line is that you're right to check back with the company and see what they can do to compensate, but it doesn't necessarily mean the roses are dead. Bare root roses can be resilient, it just depends on how dry the roots got in transition and how well they've retained some healthy roots to support the cane growth. Sympathies on the damaged roses though - you're right to be frustrated. Cynthia

Beth and Kate, your Oklahoma roses have inspired me, so when I saw one available today I grabbed it . it was the only 1 left and I expect great things because of the beauty of yours So thank you for the inspiration for another new rose that I have absolutely no place for lol

I couldn't name what cultivar, but some (beautiful) variety of creamy Hybrid Tea is my guess. Carol
