Can the range be moved?

what else will you store in there? Large things from Costco ? Do you access the extra fridge every few hours or is it just for overflow?

Everything is movable at this point. The entire kitchen is being relocated. The extra fridge is overflow...think Costco. Plus we garden, have chickens, etc. It is the idea that I will not be storing much in the way of food in the main kitchen area other than spices and the main fridge. The pantry will also have my dehydrator, crock pots, etc.

We got a great deal on a 48" range with double ovens below. The wall oven is extra. I really wanted just a 48" Blue Star cooktop but we couldnt pass up the deal on the range/oven combo. We are a TALL family...so wall oven is preferred. Everyone over 6'.

We have looked at that one but I am trying to figure out if aesthetically it looks balanced. There is a part of me that loves the centered cooktop behind the island...everything equally spaced. It just doesnt seem to be working out. That door to the exterior is the one the family uses the most to go in and out to feed animals, gardening, etc.

Lol, are you also helping save my marriage? How did you know it has caused much yelling ;-)Interesting idea about the pass through...might look into that. Yes, every time we try to get the pantry opening somewhere in the work area everything else gets messed up. I gave up a larger laundry for the new front study for the musician child. My boys have their own laundry room in their bathroom so it works. I just keep second guessing my kitchen because it is not the norm. Then again, my family isnt either!

I think the pantry is fine, considering that you want some symmetry in the kitchen. (My overflow pantry is across the dining room and down a short hall.) I'd move the entry from the utility room, so that you at least have room for a bench with some shoe storage and coat hooks. It would also be a drop zone for groceries going to the pantry:

No matter what you do there are a lot of doors opening into that small utility entry. I think I see a pocket door into the laundry but you may want to consider omitting the door between the kitchen and the utility entry. You'll also need to make sure you the pantry door is tall and wide enough to get the refrigerator and freezer through (or leave the pantry open to the utility entry).

I think we are going to compromise with a tall pantry cabinet and all pullouts in the kitchen area for every meal prep ingredients and than go with something similar to mama goose suggestion. Thank you!!!

I'm not a layout pro and it sounds like you have a solution you like. Just wanted to follow up on the tall family comment you made: my family is tall too, and when we did a kitchen renovation (and updated all our bathrooms at the same time) we raised all our counters to 39". It is SO much more comfortable for us to work in the kitchen! (And wash our faces too. No more bathroom sinks practically at knee height.) Added bonus: the taller base cabinets give us more storage space. So if you're lucky enough to do custom cabinets, I hope you consider taller base cabs. Even without custom, you can consider taller toe kicks to lift things up a bit. Even an inch or two might make a difference in your comfort.

39" is the height I picked for our kitchen cabinets. So happy to hear you like them. We are doing this home for us, so why not!

I like Mama's idea and I agree with Stan about losing the door from the utility room into the kitchen. One other thought is to do a pocket door into the pantry.

I also agree with cpartist for a pocket door into the pantry. Not only for convenience but because you are putting two heat generating appliances in your pantry. I've run into this with our new build. We have an all fridge unit we are putting in our pantry and the GC recommended no door AND a standard 120V exhaust fan to prevent mold and help with food preservation/longevity. The fan will need to be run regularly, if not continually, and the pocket door will just be closed when we entertain. In this scenario, your pantry location is perfect as it's just around the corner and not in full view.
