Vintage Patio Set - Yea or Nay?
Comments (43)You guys!! They found the missing cushion! My set is complete and I was able to use that missing cushion as a negotiating point and they didn't ask for anymore money when they found it. The thrift gods were with me on this one....See MoreCL item: how much would you pay for this?
Comments (25)I am not sure about the wood... not my area of expertise. It does have lots of knots. My husband guessed, "pine?" I see the color variation in the photo you mentioned, but I can't see it in person. It definitely needs to be touched up. I wouldn't want to refinish if it were a true antique, but am undecided since we need to fix/clean it up, anyway. We have mostly dark walnut (color) wood in our home. Hubby mentioned he'd prefer the piece was darker. I think it is quite lovely as is. I am currently planning on putting it in our laundry/dog/mudroom, which is primarily white and beige. It fits an open space I have and would serve as a nice spot to set clean clothes when I pull them out of the dryer, set down keys since it is next to the garage door, charge cell phones, etc. To my eye, the color of the wood is a nice contrast to all the light, painted surfaces we have in there. Suggestions or ideas are definitely welcomed......See MoreWhat about this CL table?
Comments (25)Thanks guys ~ I NEED ya'll to keep me on track LOL. I have been *researching* FC style online and in magazines for years so I know better LOL. It's tough because I am on a very limited budget. Next week I am going to post pics of my existing table, chairs, bench and see if there is anything I can do with it? Or what I should look for to go with what I have. It's possible I could paint the oak bench I have (church style with storage) Possibly robins egg blue to go with my blue kitchen cabinets? Or green, white? Or I could ditch it! AGAIN.. it is more plain country than FC BUT if painted the right color and used with other pieces it might work (like pulled together with matching pads) Also I have some black wood X back chairs (Again, not FC but more contemporary pottery barn look) I might be able to sew some slip covers for the Backs only and then put a pad on the seat. Not sure. I'd rather replace those with either some rush seat chairs, or ladderback chairs (or both) I also Love the parsons chair look. Not too sure about using Bench, parson chairs, and wood side chairs? I LOVE the idea of a settee on one side of the table! But can you actually eat off it? How would it be high enough to be functional. So many options.. uggh. Thanks.. I will post pics next week to show what I have. The wood underneath the top of the table looks nice (IMO)I wouldn't know what the top looks like underneath the awful black paint job until I sanded it! The table is Shaker style, but def country shaker looking. It Could work with the right chairs for FC .. (pretty sure) It is Solid Wood handmade farm table. The bench I use with it fits perfectly in scale. I could paint the legs of the table to match the bench? Leave the table top natural wood? I don't want to proceed in that direction until I check with you guys whether it could *work* as french country with the correct chairs!? thanks so much for your honest input. I wanna make smart decisions LOL Loretta...See MoreDisposable decor? Yay or nay?
Comments (71)I do think we live in a disposable world. When my parents were married, you bought really good stuff and you intended to keep it "forever"! And as you got a bigger house, you got more furniture. Now, with so many outlets selling so much "cheap" (inexpensive) merchandise, it is not a "forever" purchase but rather for the season or until one tires of it. I remember toasters and coffeepots were a "one time" purchase. Now they are disposable -- if yours stops working, you just pitch and buy a new one. Decor is like that too -- especially holiday decor (any holiday, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course, Christmas). It's what is trendy that year. I know one lady who buys all new Christmas decorations each year -- she has a theme (usually by color) and instead of packing it all away, she puts it in a garage sale in the spring. She wants it gone so she can come up with something different next year. I also have a friend who buys new living room furniture every three or four years. It's not worn, it's not broken. She's just tired of it and wants something different. And some of that disposable has something to do with trends in the marketplace. And that's what they want you to do -- change your decor to the "latest" and "greatest"! If you don't think "life" is disposable, just drive past a garage sale -- and see the stuff they offer for sale. Even thirty years ago, that wouldn't happen. Martha...See MoreKitch4me
